On Below Deck Mediterranean, Captain Sandy has rubbed fans the wrong way throughout the seasons. She is known for her micromanagement, as well as her unfair dismissals of some fans' favorite cast members. Viewers often note that she does not trust her team, as she is always checking up on the guests. Sandy looking in on the guests was perceived as her way of directly questioning her team's skills, and prompting guests to complain, while also making herself look better.

Being the only female captain on Below Deck Mediterranean, fans were excited to welcome her aboard. However, as the seasons progressed, fans were shocked to see her favoritism, and felt that she constantly interfered, especially when it came to chief stew, Hannah Ferrier. When fans were first introduced to Captain Sandy, she said she was not a micromanager. However, throughout the seasons, she has displayed that type of behavior. Off-camera, Sandy has also been slammed for her insensitive comments about Malia White, which added fuel to the fire. A lot of viewers turned on Sandy after that.

Sandy has always been slammed for sticking with her favorites and ignoring the truth. In season 5, Malia found a Valium vape pen in Hannah Ferrier's shared cabin. Hannah struggled with anxiety, and was open with Sandy about this. However, fans were horrified by Sandy's reaction to the prescribed medication, and Hannah ended up getting fired for it. Later, Sandy tried to defend her actions by blaming maritime law, and the fact that the vape pen hadn't been registered. Some time after that, it was revealed that Hannah did register the medication. This led fans to believe that Sandy had it out for Hannah, and found an easy way to get rid of the chief stew. Sandy also fired Hannah's friend, Chef Hindrigo "Kiko" Lorran, for making a mistake with the food on a Vegas theme night. During service, she told him that he would not be a part of the next charter, leaving fans upset by her questionable leadership skills.

CAPTAIN SANDY YAWN

Another display of unfair treatment by Sandy was her reaction to Lexi Wilson's behavior. Lexi was extremely rude and aggressive with her co-workers, talking back to chief stew Katie Flood and bosun Malia, and making other shady comments. Sandy was slammed online for not firing Lexi sooner, and allowing her behavior to affect the boat, which the captain had previously said was not going to happen. Sandy later defended her choice, expressing that she never saw this behavior or was informed about it. Fans are sick of Sandy defending herself when she goes back on what she expects from the crew. Fans took to a Reddit thread started by justabee43 to express their disdain for Sandy, calling her a terrible leader, a hypocrite, and someone who often thought that other crew members were beneath her.

Fans do respect Sandy as a female captain. However, fans stick by the fact that she is a terrible Below Deck Med leader. Often accused of coddling the crew members who do not perform, and slamming the ones that do, fans believe that her ego is bigger than her passion for boats. While her position is something to be proud of, she is no better than the crew, and she should trust her team. The consensus is that fans hope Sandy will not return to Below Deck Mediterranean.
