After Captain Jason gave Ryan the bad news, the chef started packing while venting about the Captain and calling him derogatory names. Captain Jason overheard and advised Ryan to leave gracefully, but the cranky chef didn’t listen. Missrhinnan tweeted, “Ryan’s long overdue firing made my day. This could not have been more satisfying, from his continued delusion and complete lack of self-awareness to his self-righteous indignation to being caught out talking s*** about the capt.” After Ryan walked off the boat, he flashed Captain Jason his behind as his final goodbye.

Ryan’s attitude was also an issue with the other members of the Thalassa crew. When Chief Stew Aesha Scott tried to work with him on the timing of food service, Ryan pushed back and plated the food when he thought the guests should eat. Captain Jason also noticed Ryan's lack of willingness to give the guests the best service. During a charter from Captain Jason's former colleague, Ryan served sub-par food that the guests weren’t happy with. When Captain Jason tried to talk to Ryan, who originally made a splash with fans, about his performance, the chef got defensive and raised his voice.

Chef Ryan hasn’t been the only demanding chef in the Below Deck franchise. Chef Kevin Dobson from Below Deck season 7 often butted heads with the Chief Stew Kate Chastain and was called out for his misogynistic treatment of her. Mila Kolomeitseva from Below Deck Mediterranean season 4 claimed she trained at Le Cordon Bleu but couldn’t make pancakes from scratch. Her cast mates were also appalled by her homophobic views. Below Deck Down Under has had some terrible cast members, but Ryan was one of the worst.

Below Deck Down Under season 3 will return in 2024.
