Below Deck fans are starting to see why Captain Sandy Yawn keeps getting so frustrated with Chief Stew Fraser Olender. There has been no shortage of drama throughout Below Deck season 10. After Captain Lee Rosbach left for health concerns, Sandy stepped in and was immediately hit with the Camille Lamb and Alissa Humber drama. Her first argument with Fraser occurred when she wanted to speak with Camille about a fight she and Alissa had, and Fraser told her not to. Sandy didn't like this and warned Fraser never to tell her what to do again.

Things got worse between them recently when Below Deck's Fraser encouraged charter guests to pack up before breakfast so they could enjoy the last of their vacation without feeling rushed. Sandy felt Fraser was rushing the guests off the boat. She later accused him and a few others of standing around talking instead of working. Fraser tried to explain himself, but Sandy didn't want to hear it. The Chief Stew was hurt by Sandy's accusations because he feels he does his job very well. Sandy has also accused Fraser of making excuses and not properly handling the rest of the crew working under him.

Below Deck Fans Think Fraser Messed Up

Luckily for Sandy, some Below Deck fans are taking her side, even if Fraser thinks she's in the wrong. Reddit user Cesmina12 is team Sandy, writing, "Sandy goes overboard sometimes (har har har), but Fraser massively f*cked up." The fan gave a lengthy explanation, saying they understand that Sandy can be disrespectful and too harsh sometimes, and they do think she's been pretty tough on Fraser. However, one of Sandy's biggest critiques is Fraser tries to be everyone's friend when he's supposed to be in charge of the crew. The fan agreed, writing, "As a department head though, you have to delineate between your friendship with subordinates and your duties as a manager. Fraser obviously has not been able to do that yet." The fan also thinks Fraser has a bad attitude toward Sandy. Another fan admits they're on Fraser's side but doesn't "think he’s been a stellar chief stew."

Below Deck's Sandy Deals With Misogyny In The Industry

The Reddit fan explains part of why they're on Sandy's side is because she's a woman in a male-dominated field. "I literally can't imagine how much mansplaining and condescension she probably has to tolerate on a regular basis," the fan wrote. This is completely understandable. Women often have to work a lot harder than men to be taken seriously, and while Sandy may come across as mean, specifically to Fraser, she's likely just frustrated. Not being taken seriously or feeling like her crew isn't respecting or listening to her probably reminds her of all the times male coworkers or bosses have spoken down to her. There have been many times when Captain Lee has gotten frustrated with workers or charter guests, but he doesn't receive the same criticism as Sandy does.

There are strong arguments to defend both Fraser and Sandy, but Fraser should not be let off the hook just because some fans think Sandy is being too mean. Below Deck fans are right to call out the Chief Stew for not properly doing his job. Sandy's job is not easy, and if the crew is not respecting her, it makes it even harder to run the boat. Especially as Lee's replacement, she doesn't want to let him down by allowing her crew to do whatever they want. As Below Deck season 10 goes on, hopefully, more fans will have compassion for Sandy and understand where she's coming from.
