Beavis and Butt-Head's Mike Judge says more episodes with the old and smart versions of the characters are on the way. Judge's wayward characters first appeared on MTV in the early '90s on Liquid Television, later getting their own self-titled series that ran for eight seasons on the network. A feature-length animated film, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, was released in 1996, making $63 million off a $12 million budget. Paramount+ revived the series for 2022, launching it with the Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe movie, which leads directly into the new series.

The movie introduces new versions of the characters that make for a fun exploration of their incarnations, creating a kind of Beavis and Butt-Head multiverse. The "smart" Beavis and Butt-Head characters are from the future and have the same silly charm, but are otherwise evolved. The "old" versions of both characters feature them as middle-aged adults, still lounging on the couch, watching TV, and otherwise behaving exactly as they do when they're teenagers.

The introduction of both new versions of Beavis and Butt-Head have won fans over, and Judge says there's more of them to come. Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant, Judge says that smart Beavis and Butt-Head was an idea that was pitched, and he worried "that we were disappearing our own assets" by creating them, but once they had it "dialed in, it was just really fun to do." Judge says that "There's a lot more of [Smart Beavis and Butt-Head]", including an episode "that's all them, starting on their planet."

But it's not only smart Beavis and Butt-Head that are coming back for more episodes. Judge says other variations of the characters will be seen throughout the series, as evidenced thus far with a three-year-old Beavis. In addition, the older, middle-aged versions of the characters will also be reappearing on the revival. Judge says there are "eight or nine episodes where they're old, with smart Beavis and Butt-Head introducing them." As was set forth in the Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe film, the possibilities for the show have opened up, and Judge confirms more of it is on the way, saying, "We're doing some fun multiverse stuff."

Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe cleverly sets up the dastardly duo for the modern era, and the new show is both a hilarious throwback to the '90s series and a step forward for the characters with new adventures, challenges, and ridiculous endeavors, usually in the name of "scoring." The introduction of other versions of the characters expands the comedic duo's wheelhouse to go beyond the couch and compete on the same level as something like Rick and Morty, while still keeping its unique identity intact. While some may think that Beavis and Butt-Head's time has passed, the new show proves that they're just getting started.
