Beavis and Butt-Head creator, Mike Judge, confirms a new movie is coming to Paramount+ in 2022. Judge's original series followed the eponymous Beavis and Butt-Head, who are a pair of teenage slackers known for their lack of intelligence, failure to attract woman, and lowbrow humor. Both the lead roles are voiced by Judge, as well as a host of other characters on the series.

After debuting in a Judge-created short film, called Frog Baseball, both Beavis and Butt-Head would go on to star in a self-titled series on MTV in the 1990s. The original series ran for seven seasons, which consisted of 200 total episodes. The couch-potato, burn-out lead characters quickly became pop culture icons, and the show earned widespread acclaim praising its satirical commentary on society. Despite their popularity, the pair would only star in one feature film, titled Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, in 1996. However, it seems Beavis and Butt-Head are gearing up for a comeback this year.

Posted to Judge's Twitter account, the Beavis and Butt-Head creator confirms a new movie will release to the Paramount+ streaming service in 2022. Judge further elaborates that "no exact date" is currently known, but it will be announced soon. The show's creator jokingly accompanied his post with a drawing of both characters much older and out-of-shape, along with the wording, "they need some time to get back in shape." Back in the summer of 2020, MTV Entertainment Group president, Chris McCarthy, announced a brand new Beavis and Butt-Head movie for Paramount+ from Judge was in the works. McCarthy called the slacker pair, "a defining voice of a generation," and revealed that fans can expect to watch the characters, "navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own." Previous reports shed more light on the upcoming movie by describing it as following the pair enter "a 'whole new Gen Z world' with meta-themes that are said to be relatable to both new fans... and old." While the characters were brought back for a one-season reboot series in 2011, Beavis and Butt-Head have remained dormant ever since.

Judge has gone on to create numerous critically acclaimed works of film and television, including King of the Hill and Office Space. While his original characters, Beavis and Butt-Head, serve as cultural icons, they are very much a product of the '90s. Updating the characters for a modern audience could offer some brevity in these trying times. Will the dim-witted companions have to navigate the waters of the coronavirus pandemic? Or, will they offer their take on the recent U.S presidential election? Fans can look forward to watching the couch-potato pair deal with the modern age whenever the new Beavis and Butt-Head movie debuts this year.
