Josh Gad says the Beauty and the Beast prequel show starts filming in Spring. The actor known for voicing Olaf in Frozen starred in Disney's 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast from director Bill Condon as LeFou, Gaston's (Luke Evans) flamboyant sidekick. This fan-favorite duo was part of an ensemble cast that also included Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as the titular Belle and Beast along with Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen, and Emma Thompson in supporting roles.

The upcoming Beauty and the Beast prequel show for Disney+ hails from Once Upon a Time creators, Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, and will feature Evans and Gad reprising their roles as the devilish duo, Gaston and LeFou. However, the prequel series will purportedly not just focus on this duo, but a trio that also includes LeFou's step-sister, Tilly, portrayed by Briana Middleton, who just made her feature film debut in The Tender Bar. The series composer, Alan Menken, revealed that the prequel series will be titled The Little Town in reference to the song "Belle" from the 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast movie.

In a recent interview with ComicBook promoting his new Peacock series, Wolf Like Me, Gad provided an exciting update regarding The Little Town. The LeFou actor says the Beauty and the Beast prequel series is aiming to start shooting this coming Spring. Read what Gad had to say below:

We're still planning on shooting this spring and the scripts are incredible, the music is unbelievable, all-new songs by Alan Menken, we're casting now.

Beauty and the Beast Trailer - Luke Evans as Gaston and Josh Gad as LeFou

While the series has already secured its main stars to play the trio of Gaston, LeFou, and Tilly, additional casting is happening right now, as revealed by Gad, so look for those announcements to be made soon. Considering the revelation that the project is aiming to start shooting in the coming months, The Little Town could potentially debut on Disney+ sometime early next year. That is, of course, if production stays on schedule and is unencumbered by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Beauty and the Beast prequel series has been anticipated ever since the release of the 2017 film, and both Evans and Gad expressed interest in revisiting their characters during the film's press tour. The series has also been anticipated due to its possible exploration of LeFou's sexuality, which was a much discussed aspect of Condon's adaptation. For many Disney fans looking forward to Gaston and LeFou's reteaming on Disney+, The Little Town's premiere date can't come soon enough.
