The Beats Fit Pro appear to be a solid pair of earbuds at first glance, but do they have the specs to back up their good looks? Since Apple purchased Beats in 2014, the two companies have quickly dominated the consumer audio space. Two years after acquiring Beats, Apple broke into the wireless earbud space with the now-iconic AirPods. The years since have seen releases of AirPods Pro and AirPods Max — further cementing Apple as a top player in the earbuds and headphones niches.

But it hasn't just been about Apple-branded gadgets. Apple's kept the Beats name alive and well since buying the company. In fact, the Beats of today is stronger than it's ever been. The Beats Flex are excellent workout earbuds for budget shoppers, the Beats Studio Buds are better than 2nd gen AirPods for about the same money, and the most recent Beats Fit Pro deliver many of AirPods Pro's best features at a lower price. In fact, the $199 Fit Pro became the darling of the earbud world almost immediately after its release in November 2021.

While the Fit Pro benefit from a comfy design and competitive price, part of the hype for the earbuds is also thanks to the impressive spec list. Starting with the design, the earbuds measure 3 x 2.4 x 1.9cm with a weight of just 5.6g. Even with the built-in wingtip, they're extremely lightweight and comfortable for long listening sessions. The case itself is also pretty compact — measuring 6.2 x 6.2 x 2.85cm and weighing 55.1g. The earbuds feature an IPX4 rating for sweat and water resistance, though this same protection does not apply to the charging case. The case also lacks support for Qi wireless charging, but it does have a USB-C port for wired charging.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Beats Fit Pro is their audio capabilities. Beats doesn't specify the size of the driver inside the Fit Pro, but the audio quality is very reminiscent of what's present in AirPods Pro. The same is true of the Fit Pro's audio features. The earbuds come with adaptive active noise cancellation, transparency mode, Adaptive EQ, and spatial audio with dynamic head tracking. The Fit Pro also use the same skin detection sensors from AirPods 3 for automatic playback controls. Take the earbuds out of your ears, and the music stops. Put them back in, and the music resumes. For those times when you're taking phone calls, two beamforming microphones "pinpoint your voice while a digital processor cuts out external noise and wind."

Something else to consider is the rated battery life for the earbuds. With ANC enabled, Beats estimates that the Fit Pro last for up to 6 hours of continuous listening time. The charging case offers an additional 18 hours of playback, creating a total battery package of 24 hours. Furthermore, the charging case includes Beats' 'Fast Fuel' technology. This means that 5 minutes of charging is enough for up to 1 hour of playback "when battery is low."

Last but certainly not least, the Beats Fit Pro have very robust connectivity options. Thanks to the included H1 chip, the Fit Pro work seamlessly when paired with Apple devices (similar to AirPods). This includes automatic pairing, seamlessly switching between other devices connected to the same iCloud account, audio sharing to other H1 earbuds/headphones, hands-free 'Hey Siri' commands, and location tracking from the Find My app. The Fit Pro offer similar functionality on Android devices thanks to the free Beats companion app. On an Android phone connected to the app, the Fit Pro support one-touch pairing, customizable playback controls, software updates, etc. There's no Android Fast Pair support like the Studio Buds offer, but it's still a much better experience than using AirPods with an Android phone. Add all of that together, and it's easy to see why the Beats Fit Pro have generated so much buzz. This is an impressive spec sheet for $199. If the lack of wireless charging isn't a deal-breaker, definitely give the Fit Pro a solid look.
