A brand new poster for the upcoming survival film Beast shows Idris Elba going head-to-head with a vicious lion in the savanna. Following appearances in several established franchise projects, including Sonic 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, the English actor, will return to the thriller genre in Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur's new film. In Universal Picture's Beast, Elba plays Dr. Nate Samuels, who travels to South Africa with his daughters (Iyana Halley and Leah Jeffries) to visit a friend (Sharlto Copley) on his game reserve. Upon arrival, however, the group encounters a savage lion.

The BeastMovie Twitter page shares a new poster for the film ahead of its August 19 release date, which shows Elba battling the bloodthirsty creature that ends up stalking his family across the South African savanna. Elba's Dr. Samuels looks worn down and bloody, wielding nothing but a combat knife against the charging predator. Check out the official artwork below:

Unlike the full Beast trailer released in May, which teased the lion in short – but terrifying – snippets, the new poster displays the animal much more directly. While the proclaimed "king of the jungle" looks no different aesthetically than any other lion, the menacing snarl on its face suggests that it has a nasty disposition and likely a vendetta against humans. Although the lion's motivations are unclear, Elba's character must use his wits and any available resources to survive the nightmare and protect his family. If Universal's new Beast poster is any indication, Samuels's battle with the monster will take them both to the limit.
