As Batwoman season 3 reaches its end, the creative team behind the show addresses the season 4 renewal status. Since the global COVID-19 pandemic began, TV and film have had their entire schedules scrambled, which includes airtimes, production, and more. For The CW's Arrowverse, the DC franchise has had their regular flow tinkered with, as most of their shows usually begin to wrap their ongoing seasons in May. However, since 2020, many of the shows have had to adjust, whether that be by having fewer episodes or putting a pause on the annual crossovers.

Around this time of the year, The CW has usually given their fans a heads-up as they hand out early renewals to most of their shows. However, with or without a pandemic, this year has been different, due to the fact that the WarnerMedia/ViacomCBS-owned network is currently for sale. Even though there have been no updates since January, the shake-up is having an effect on The CW's strategy for the next season. Several shows, including Batwoman, are getting ready to either wrap their ongoing seasons or have already aired their finales, while their fates remain up in the air. Batwoman season 3 and Legends of Tomorrow season 7 are set to end this Wednesday, March 2, and right now, fans have no idea if either Arrowverse dramas will be back next year.

As viewers are getting concerned about their favorite shows, the official Batwoman Writers' Room Twitter account gives some updates on the lack of a season 4 renewal. When asked if the writers had gotten any updates on a potential Batwoman season 4, the account confirms they haven't heard anything yet. However, Batwoman isn't the only series waiting to learn its fate, as the writers' account clarify that none of The CW's shows have learned if they have been canceled or picked up for more episodes.

Unless something happens before their upcoming season finales, Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow will join 4400 and Nancy Drew in waiting to learn about their futures. The only show with any recent significant updates is The Flash, as Grant Gustin was, as of January 28, finalizing a new deal for season 9. Even though fans are used to seeing their series get picked up early, it's worth remembering that it wasn't always the case. In the past, The CW had usually handed out renewals sometime right before or during the Upfronts, an important TV ad sales period. At this point, given the network's for-sale status, May 19 may be when fans learn about several shows' fates, as this is when The CW will have their in-person Upfront presentation.

It's certainly understandable that fans are worried about not getting another season for their shows. The CW's situation developed in the middle of the TV season, meaning most shows didn't go into their ongoing seasons thinking that they could be their series-enders. Only time will tell what will happen to The CW properties, including the Arrowverse shows. Ideally, regardless of who buys The CW, they will bring back as many shows as possible for the next TV season. With the Batwoman season 3 finale coming up this Wednesday, fans will hopefully learn if season 4 is a go sooner rather than later.
