According to word from an industry insider, publisher Electronic Arts aims to reveal Battlefield 6 on an unspecified date in May. Electronic Arts and series creator DICE first shared plans for 2021's Battlefield entry last spring, but offered little else in terms of concrete details.

EA executives have since let loose cursory details about the new title in earnings reports. For instance, company CEO Andrew Wilson previously noted the next Battlefield will boast "never-before-seen scale," in addition to promising that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are allowing DICE to fully realize its "next-gen vision" for the long-running shooter series. Hints and teases aside, fans continue to patiently await a proper unveiling. Multiple industry insiders have kept the public apprised of what they claim constitutes DICE's intentions with the still-unnamed project. Notably, one rumor alleges Battlefield 6 will feature cross-play functionality, as well as an upgrade to the franchise's ground-breaking destruction capabilities. Yet another bit of speculation suggests the shooter will launch across both last-gen and current-gen consoles. Apparently, the wait to learn which rumors prove true is nearly at an end.

Speaking on GamesBeat Decides, GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb was asked when EA plans to officially unveil this year's Battlefield. He quickly responded with "May," before noting that "things are still fluid." Grubb then went on to say, "my understanding is they're probably looking at May." As far as he knows, the goal is to formally announce the latest installment prior to the general E3 timeline in June. The Battlefield-related talk in the following video begins around the 26:30 mark.

As with every other piece of speculation surrounding 2021's Battlefield, it's best to take all of the above with a grain of salt. Fans should especially be wary since neither EA nor DICE have shared specifics as of yet. A May reveal doesn't sound too farfetched, however. The game is set to release later in the year, making late spring or early summer the perfect time for a full-on announcement.

Battlefield V serves as the franchise's last entry, having hit store shelves in the fall of 2018. DICE continued supporting the game well into 2020, but has moved on to focus its efforts entirely on the presumably titled Battlefield 6. Interestingly, Need for Speed developer Criterion is assisting with the project's final months of production, a move that's delayed the racing brand's next entry to 2022.
