Dedicated XP farm servers in Battlefield 2042 look inviting but have been accidentally setting up hopeful players for slaughter. The Battlefield Portal in Battlefield 2042 allows players to create servers with their own game rules, including classic Battlefield titles from Battlefield Bad Company 2 to Battlefield 1942. This platform is essentially a sandbox allowing players to create their own custom battle modes. Of course, this had led to some players creating what are called XP farms, where a small group of humans takes on hordes of purposely weak bots to make gaining XP easy, and then use that XP to unlock guns and attachments.

Although the game doesn’t release until November 19th, early reviews have pointed out some potential long-term issues with Battlefield 2042. While the sheer scope and class diversity is an improvement, it might also be the game’s downfall. Even with a small player base at the moment, beta players are still experiencing issues loading into games and connecting to servers. Since the game is expected to be able to host a massive group of 128 soldiers per game, it does not bode well for the future.

According to IGN, Battlefield 2042 players joining these XP farm servers hope to unlock weapons quickly, but many are finding they are accidentally on the wrong side of the slaughter. The very design of these farms is to create a large group of enemies with little health, and nothing but a knife to fight back with. The problem arises when the team of humans is already full. Any player who joins an already full server ends up spawning on the bot team instead, suddenly finding themself with little health and a knife against a full team of soldiers armed to the teeth, with only dozens of mindless bots as teammates.

In a strange twist, some players accept the challenge and try to fight back with just their knives, but this doesn’t usually go well. EA has been working on resolving the issue, going so far as to lower the XP gains from these servers. But the Battlefield Portal is a huge departure from the recent Battlefield formula and could take the franchise in an exciting new direction, shifting the focus back to large-scale multiplayer combat.

Surely the irony is not lost on the players seeking out XP farms, only to be farmed themselves. While the game might have a long list of bugs and issues just before launch, some can still be entertaining. For example, the broken Battlefield 2042 hovercrafts can be a great addition to the fun. Sometimes the best features can be unintended ones.
