In Battlefield 2042, every weapon has its own unique stat line and purpose. There are a variety of weapon types, and each makes sense for a different range and situation. While there are useful weapons of all types available when starting the game, some of the weapons have to be unlocked. This gives players a feeling of progression, even if they only choose to play multiplayer. This is also the case for Battlefield 2042's specialists, some of which must also be unlocked.

While players will have a Battlefield 2042 weapon option of almost every basic archetype (SMG, AR, Sniper, etc.) from the outset, they will not have access to all of the options for each. This is important, because the weapons in each category do differ a bit, and some of those that are considered more powerful take a little while to unlock. Some players may not be too happy about this when they are getting shredded by some of the better guns, but it does add a little bit of variety to the game, and gets players to try more guns.

Luckily, players can get access to better guns just by playing the game as they normally would. This is because weapons are unlocked by player levels, which are gained by getting experience playing multiplayer games. This can be done by getting kills, capturing objectives, destroying vehicles, or any other helpful action for players' teams. This makes it pretty easy to level up quickly, and unlock all of the guns to make the best possible Battlefield 2042 loadouts.

How to Unlock Every Weapon in Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 Update 3 changes to graphics, UI, and UX

Each Battlefield 2042 weapon that isn't available from the beginning has a specific level requirement. Once this level is reached, players will be notified that they have unlocked the weapon, and they will be able to choose it in-game as well as create loadouts that include it. These are the level requirements for each weapon:

Submachine Guns

  • PBX-45: Unlocked by default
  • PP-29: Reach level 18
  • MP9: Reach level 36
  • K30: Reach level 53

Assault Rifles

  • M5A3: Unlocked by default
  • AK-24: Reach level 11
  • SFAR-M GL:  Reach level 27
  • AC-42: Reach level 40

Light Machine Guns

  • LCMG: Reach level 3
  • PKP-BP: Reach level 32

Marksman Rifles

  • DM7: Unlocked by default
  • SVK: Reach level 14
  • VCAR: Reach level 47

Sniper Rifles

  • SWS-10: Unlocked by default

  • NTW-50: Reach level 60

Secondary Weapons

  • G57: Unlocked by default

Utility Weapons

  • MCS-880: Reach level 7
  • GVT 45-70: Reach level 21
  • 12M AUTO: Reach level 44

By the time players reach level 7, they will have at least one option from every single weapon category. So, it doesn't take all that long to be able to compete on a relatively fair playing field in multiplayer. When it comes down to it, though, players are going to want to grind out levels quickly to make sure they have access to the guns that they like best. For Battlefield 2042's Portal games, all available weapons will be pre-unlocked.
