EA confirmed that Battlefield 2042 Season 1 will add a new specialist and Portal content to the game, as the developers take a new approach to live service. Battlefield 2042's release is a little over a week away but EA is already hyping up the game’s post-launch content. Battlefield 2042’s first year of live service will see four Seasons and four Battle Passes, as well as new Specialists and Portal content. The push for Battlefield 2042’s evolving post-launch atmosphere resembles Call of Duty: Warzone. The battle royale consistently receives additional content and story updates that change the nature of the game over time. The strategy has worked in Warzone’s favor, and it seems EA is doubling down on that mentality.

While Battlefield 2042 is noticeably missing a campaign, the futuristic FPS does have a plethora of unique game modes. In addition to its All-Out Warfare, the game will also feature Battlefield Portal, which emphasizes customization, as well as Hazard Zone, a squad-based extraction-type game mode. Battlefield Portal brings nostalgia to Battlefield 2042, incorporating content from Battlefield games of the past. Players will have an opportunity to create custom games using that content, in what is supposed to be an ever-changing experience. EA previously confirmed that Battlefield Portal will see consistent content updates that add additional customization options to the game mode such as new classic maps. And while EA is not spoiling all its future content for Battlefield 2042, it has unveiled some of what’s to come.

According to EA, Battlefield 2042 Season 1 will add a new Specialist, as well as additional Portal content, as the developers roll out the first of four seasons that will take place next year. It wasn’t revealed what the new Specialist will look like and EA kept details regarding the additional Portal content under wraps, however, more details will be available in early 2022. It was also hinted that players may get “new sights to see as the story of Battlefield 2042 continues to unfold,” during Season 1, which could mean new maps or other content that expands the game’s futuristic storyline. At launch, before Season 1, there will be a Preseason with "Weekly Missions and Rewards, Limited Time Modes, featured Creator Spotlights and experiences in Battlefield Portal."

EA reveals post-launch content for Battlefield 2042, Battlefield Portal

Battlefield 2042’s Specialists are different from the franchise’s previous class-based system. These characters have more detailed character models and are equipped with unique gadgets, with each specialist containing specific abilities that provide advantages on the battlefield. New specialists will arrive over the course of next year, with Season 1 bringing the first new specialist post-launch. It’s not clear what gadget the specialist will come equipped with, though it will likely entail its own advantages. In addition to the specialist, there will be new Battlefield Portal content, which could be classic maps and modes from Battlefield games of the past.

EA also hinted at potential new maps coming to Battlefield 2042 during Season 1, as it revealed that there will be new sights to see. These new sights supposedly advance the futuristic plot of the game, so it’s doubtful EA was talking only about new classic maps for Battlefield Portal. Whatever those new sights are, however, it’s likely Battlefield 2042 fans are excited to take a peek.
