A new video compares the remastered maps coming in Battlefield 2042's new Portal mode to their original releases, highlighting the technical improvements between the versions. The upcoming game will feature classic maps from previous series' entries thanks to its newly-revealed Battlefield Portal mode.

Battlefield Portal will include six maps from three previous games in the series, each of which has been fully remastered for Battlefield 2042. As well as launching with pre-built maps, Batllefield Portal will also allow players to create their own game modes, choosing how they're played with a surprisingly complex game logic editor. Players will be able to use a range of assets reimagined from across the Battlefield franchise to make custom creations for all to enjoy. All maps in Portal mode will use the same engine as Battlefield 2042, bringing even the oldest into the latest generation of gaming. At launch, Battlefield Portal will include six classic maps: Caspian Border and Noshar Canals (Battlefield 3), Arica Harbor and Valparaiso (Battlefield: Bad Company 2), and Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein (Battlefield 1942).

YouTuber Cycu1 has uploaded a video comparing the original Arica Harbor and Caspian Border maps with their Battlefield 2042 remasters (via Wccftech). The user shows side-by-side comparisons, highlighting the visual upgrades in the new Battlefield game. Unfortunately, the footage used for the remasters comparison is from the EA Play Live showcase earlier this July, meaning it's not as high-quality as it will be when players get their hands on the game. Despite the limitations of the footage, the video highlights vast improvements between the old maps and their remasters, giving fans a taste of the technological improvements they can expect to see at launch.

As revealed during EA Play Live, Battlefield 2042's Portal mode remastered maps are built using entirely new assets. This means the remasters will have cleaner, crisper, and more detailed environments, taking full advantage of newer hardware and development techniques. This is just the beginning for Battlefield Portal, with EA making it clear that the mode will be fully integrated into the game's live-service model. Portal will be a collaborative way for co-developer Ripple Effect to collaborate with the community, with new maps, weapons, and specialists planned to be added as part of seasonal content updates.

Along with its Portal mode, Battlefield 2042 promises to deliver all-out new-gen warfare with seven all-new game maps and support for up to 128 Battlefield 2042 players on new-gen consoles. Gamers with last-gen consoles will have matches capped at 64 players, ensuring older hardware won't struggle. Fans will be able to get a taste of the upcoming game with an open beta scheduled for this September, with official dates still to be confirmed.
