Battlefield 2042 recently concluded an open beta test, and EA has clarified what exactly it learned from that experience. As with any beta, there were features that needed ironing out, and bugs that needed fixing. Bugs are always the primary concern, leading some to wonder just how recent the Battlefield 2042 beta build was. Questions aplenty are answered, suggesting new changes coming to the game soon.

With Battlefield 2042 just under a month out, DICE is hard at work getting the game into the best shape it can be come launch day. The beta tests, as the most direct way to get feedback directly from players, are always full of messages about what is and isn’t working. Some bugs, like graphical glitches, can be easy to ignore, but those that affect gameplay are much more troubling. The game’s launch is swiftly approaching, and so the question remains whether DICE will be able to fix the majority of what is broken by then (remembering, of course, that post-launch patches are also an option). The beta’s bugs were numerous, and don’t bode well for Battlefield 2042, but EA is taking notes and is letting players know that it’s paying attention.

To prove that changes are being made, EA has released a lengthy blog post describing in great detail what it learned from the beta. First, to put speculation to rest, the post confirms that the beta build was, in fact, from August rather than later, as some suspected. But there’s much more than that. The post addresses a variety of topics, including loadouts, plus menu changes, the ping system, and more. Though loadouts were limited in the beta, they will be fully customizable in the full game, as well as nameable so they’ll be easy to find. The plus menu will be more useful than in the beta, enabling attachment switches on the fly. The ping system has been overhauled to be more responsive and enable better communication between teammates. Here’s hoping that helps with team identification, one of the Battlefield 2042 beta’s biggest problems.

That’s not all. Other changes include more tanks on Orbital for PS5/Xbox Series X/S/PC, a grenade indicator added, health regeneration changes, Big Map, and Commorose. The post mentions a key binding for Big Map that was disabled during the beta, and others, like the health regeneration changes, are meant to make roles like the Medic more useful to the game as a whole. The Commorose, in particular, is a staple of the series and is helpful for quick team communication in the heat of battle, so not having it in the beta was a strange choice. The list of tweaks goes on even past what’s mentioned here, so the game may look quite different come launch day.

The road to Battlefield 2042 has been long and, like all games, not without its struggles. But with these beta tweaks, as well the addition of a creative suite and Battlefield Portal, a mode that reinvents content from past games in the series, Battlefield 2042 is looking to make a big splash when it finally launches next month.
