New footage from Battlefield 2042's recent technical playtest has surfaced online, offering a closer look at on-foot and vehicular gameplay. DICE and Electronic Arts hosted the closed technical alpha for Battlefield 2042 earlier this month, giving a select number of PC and Xbox players a chance to experience the game in a limited capacity.

Those who didn't secure a place in the technical alpha need not fret. An open beta is scheduled to go live sometime in September, though DICE and Electronic Arts remain mum about specific session dates. Players who preordered the title will gain early access to the beta, while the full open beta experience will be available to everyone across all platforms a short time thereafter. EA Play subscribers, and Xbox Game Pass members by proxy, can also expect to enter the open beta during its early access phase. For now, though, the recently held technical alpha is the talk of the town, especially following the release of gameplay footage.

Despite signing NDAs, participants in Battlefield 2042's closed technical alpha have uploaded gameplay content online. YouTuber COD 2042 (via DSOGaming) recently released two videos of the game in action, in fact, showcasing alpha footage of both on-foot and vehicle-based gameplay. Being playtest footage, there, of course, exists a few noticeable hitches here and there; however, this new look at Battlefield 2042 manages to impress regardless, particularly in the sound design department. Check it out in the videos linked below, which may or may not eventually get pulled by EA.

While the above videos look and sound promising, the real test will come once DICE rolls out the open beta for all players across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. Again, apart from a September launch window, exact dates for Battlefield 2042's public beta have yet to go live.

After a lengthy bout of teasing, speculation, and leaks, EA formally unveiled Battlefield 2042 earlier this summer, detailing an online-only experience that will not boast the traditional single-player campaign. Battlefield faithful should still find plenty of reason to sink time into the military shooter, given the various modes DICE plans to unleash at launch. One such mode includes Battlefield Portal, a community-focused platform that allows players to create custom sessions based on content featured in older titles.
