Amid all of the secrecy surrounding the production of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, one of the first major reveals from director Zack Snyder was a black-and-white image of Ben Affleck wearing the new Batman suit, standing next to the new Batmobile. For a long time this was the only official look at the movie, and so it became the subject of much discussion and analysis. It also become a pretty excellent meme.
Now that the first full-length trailer for Batman V Superman has arrived there are a lot more details to discuss, particularly regarding Superman's new status in the world. The trailer features two versions of the Batsuit: the suit that was featured in the very first image, and a set of powered armor complete with eyes that light up and some kind of voice distortion technology.
The latest look at the new Batsuit and Batmobile comes from Bleacher Report, in a video that features NBA star and Batman nerd DeAndre Jordan taking a look at the Batman Exhibit, which is part of the Warner Bros. VIP Studio Tour. Jordan's tour includes a look at the outfits for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, the latter of which is a lot more colorful than it appeared in the first official image of Gal Gadot in the role. It's also noted that Batman in his suit has a noticeably larger frame than Superman, perhaps to make the Kryptonian's human opponent seem like more of a threat.
The video is particularly worth watching for close-ups and discussion of the details on the Batman suit, including his utility belt, steel knuckles, steel-toed boots. Obviously by themselves these won't make much of a difference to Superman when he's at full power, but if Batman is able to weaponize kryptonite then he could make good on his promise to make Superman bleed.
The tour also offers a detailed look at the new Batmobile, including the fact that it can raise up on its wheels for jumping and sit lower for chase scenes. Batman, who usually relies on his wit, fighting ability and gadgets, will also use guns more often in Batman V Superman than we've really seen in previous Batman films; the video highlights the machine gun turrets on the front of the Batmobile, and the Batplane has similar weapons that were seen blowing up trucks in the trailer. In the trailer, Batman was also shown holding a scoped rifle.
Between this video and the trailer we're definitely getting the impression that Affleck's Batman will be a battle-scarred brawler, but will experience and determination be enough to trump superhuman powers?
