Batman Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor

[WARNING: Possible SPOILERS for Batman v Superman ahead.]

-

Warner Bros. finally confirmed their ambitious slate of releases for their DC interconnected movie universe this week, but attention quickly swung back to the Detroit set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Man of Steel follow-up which will set up the entire DC continuity (including Batman and Superman solo releases coming before 2020).

BvS director Zack Snyder's SuckerPunch star Jena Malone was spotted on the set some months ago, fueling fan speculation that she actually had a role in the film. A recent rumor suggests that Malone is actually playing the Carrie Kelley version of Robin - which may or may not be true, given that it comes from an anonymous member of the production crew - but other details about a scene featuring an altercation between Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) leaked during the same report sound somewhat more believable.

The WILX report brought to us by Bleeding Cool took place right outside the Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, where the scene was apparently some kind of red carpet event featuring a fight between Wayne and Luthor and "military intervention." Now, Latino-Review has a possible confirmation of some of the details of the scene, including the purpose of the event.

According to their source - whose name has been withheld - here is the set-up for the party scene:

A couple of on set people have confirmed the occasion for the party thrown by Lex Luthor. It is the reopening of Metropolis Central Library post the battle for Metropolis. Lexcorp funded the construction because “Intellect is man’s biggest strength” which seems to be a direct shot at Superman.

Evidently, not only is power-player Bruce Wayne in attendance alongside Luthor, but reporters Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams) are present, as well. According to L-R's report:

Other small details tied to that scene, the movie will have an almost red carpet montage where the rich and famous are asked their views about the Superman who appeared in the public eye recently. The red carpet setup is attached, and will include both Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor being asked that question by Lois Lane and Clark Kent on the carpet.

While the idea of sending Pulitzer Prize-winner Lois Lane to cover a high society event sounds a little off, having Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent in close quarters as much as possible to offset their costumed alter egos' various encounters is a perfect way to highlight their differences in stature and style.

As for what sets off the fight between the two rich guys, the L-R source only adds, "We still don’t know why Wayne and Luthor argue." There is no mention of the supposed military presence in the scene.

Lex Luthor vs Batman

It goes without saying that we should take all of this with several grains of salt. Still, this report includes details that call back to those Superman protest scenes and provide ample opportunity for Lex Luthor to jab at the Big Blue Boy Scout as much as possible.

One question this report brings up is just how could Luthor have provoked Bruce Wayne, assuming the fisticuffs rumor is true? Wayne prides himself on his control, but if star Ben Affleck's comments on his anger issues is any indication, an insufferable Luthor taking shots at Wayne or someone close to him might be enough for Wayne to slug the SOB.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in U.S. theaters on March 25th, 2016.
