General audiences and fans alike may be gearing up for what is sure to be one of the biggest openings of all time with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in just under two months, but coming only a few months after that is another monumental theatrical event in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Not only will it be the first time the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel meet on the big screen, but it will also introduce the first cinematic versions of Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher), not to mention a new Lex Luthor (Jessie Eisenberg).

In spite of all the new characters joining in on the fun for Batman v Superman, it seems the focus of the film will still very much be on the conflict between the two titular heroes. As it was discussed earlier this week, Bruce Wayne has a bit of a grudge against Superman because of the collateral damage caused by his battle with Zod. Eventually, however, the two will be forced to come together to fight "a new threat" that puts "mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before," as the official synopsis states.

Until that danger arises, audiences can look forward to seeing the Caped Crusader and the Blue Boy Scout duke it out on screen. That battle, which will be largely influenced by the climax of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, makes up just a portion of the new stills released in the last issue of Total Film (via CBM). The latest batch of images also feature new glimpses at Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Batmobile, and a clearer look at the DC trinity.

Unlike a lot of other recent blockbusters, it seems that Warner Bros. and DC Comics are not planning to hold back on the promotion for Batman v Superman. With still five months to go before its release, we've already gotten several clear glimpses of the core group of heroes, a description of the opening scene, and even confirmation on Michael Shannon's return (although in what form remains in question).

Of course, there are some things they have yet to reveal, including the major threat mentioned earlier. We know that Lex Luthor will play somewhat of a villainous role, although he obviously will need a bit of assistance to take on Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. There have been several rumors regarding who that physical force may be, with everything from Doomsday to a Zod clone being mentioned at one point or another, but it seems we may not know for sure until we get closer to the film's release - or even until the movie itself.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016, followed by Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 23, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern on June 19, 2020.
