For the month of March, Batman: The Enemy Within - Complete Season is available for free on the Xbox Game Pass. This is the second Batman game released Telltale and is the sequel to the original. The first episode, titled The Enigma, follows Batman and his run-ins with one of his nemeses, Edward Nigma, also known as the Riddler. Like every Telltale game, Batman: The Enemy Within is story-driven, the player’s choices affect how certain narratives play out. Additionally, the game isn’t too action-packed, the game has quick-time events that challenge the player’s reflexes with somewhat simple commands during important times in the game, such as combat.

This guide will be only for Chapter 1 of the episode which takes place primarily at the Virago. The walkthrough contains eight total parts, one for each chapter. The game has several different endings and choices that the players can end up with, but with this guide, they will receive what many consider is the “best” ending.

Chapter 1: The Virago

As the game starts, players have the choice of different tech colors. This only affects the aesthetics of the game, such as Batman’s Gear, Weapons, and UI. This choice does not affect the story at all. The first choice starts with Alfred and Bruce having a conversation:

  • We all hide our true selves.
  • You can become the role.
  • I never forgot who I am.

Then, Bruce moves closer to Mori, but at that moment, a woman jumps in and questions Bruce:

  • I’m undercover. Shh.
  • Looking for a thrill.
  • You’re not my type.

Suddenly, the Riddler is at Mori’s table. The lady responds “Are you always this rude?” which the player can answer:

  • [Lie] Meet me outside.
  • Come with me.
  • Go away.

These choices don’t matter too much, but choosing the first option will make the woman mad at Bruce and leave faster than the other two. Afterward, Riddler suddenly kills a guard and prevents Mori from escaping. Bruce then leaves in order to get his suit but is followed by a gang member. The player has to fight him with some quick-time events. After knocking him out, Bruce will get his suit once the player grabs the mask.

After the cut scene, the game goes back to the casino where Riddler has a host of hostages and Mori in some sort of torture device. Batman sends a drone to survey the situation, and then players will need to knock out some guards while stealthed. Then next choice will be Commissioner Gordon asking the player how the should proceed with the situation:

  • Make a Frontal Assault
  • Hit them with Tear Gas

Taking the second option creates a good distraction which clears the path for Batman to storm in and take out Riddler’s right-hand man. After a few quick-time events, the player has two options to apprehend him:

  • Shock Him.
  • Tie Him Down.

This will knock him out the fastest, but then Riddler attacks you from the back and rants a bit before the player can respond with:

  • You are just ordinary scum.
  • You’re yesterday’s news.
  • You don’t know me.

This choice doesn’t really matter in regards to the overall story, but as the conversation continues, Commissioner Gordon charges in, and the player will have to perform some more quick-time events. The player will then chase down The Riddler, which he then prompts another response from Batman:

  • To prove you wrong.
  • I believe in Justice.
  • I save people.

Another choice that doesn’t impact gameplay. The fight starts immediately afterward, and The Riddler will then destroy the platform and leave behind some clues for the player. Then, Batman has to jump down to save Gordon from falling. The following scene has Batman grab the clue and speak with Gordon:

  • Well, he did escape.
  • He’d never met me.
  • He’s arrogant.

After another unimpactful choice, a person named Waller enters the scene who starts a conversation with the player:

  • And you are?
  • I haven’t had the pleasure.
  • I don’t like your attitude.

The second choice is just a way to flesh out this conversation without being too confrontational. After some dialogue, another prompt comes up:

  • You could have warned us.
  • Good thing you are here.
  • Never heard of you.

Again, avoiding confrontation with the second choice, Batman then recalls his encounter with The Riddler, Waller wants to team up with the player:

  • I only work with Gordon.
  • I don’t need a team.
  • That’s a good idea.

Another positive reply, but as the conversation unfolds, an argument between Gordon and Waller breaks out, and the player is given three options to handle it:

  • You’re right, Waller.
  • I made the call.
  • Back off.

The second option here is the most neutral, which ends with Waller leaving and two agents, Avesta and Blake, are left behind to question the player:

  • He wanted a solution to a riddle.
  • They had some kind of deal.
  • Riddler’s just insane.

The answer here isn’t too important, but it’s generally best to give them as much info as possible. Agent Avesta, as a fan of Batman, continues to question him leaving the player with the following responses:

  • I don’t like your insinuation.
  • It’s unavoidable.
  • Of course I am.

The second option is again the most neutral. Afterward, Waller walks in again, and after some dialogue, the player is prompted to respond:

  • Riddler left me a Puzzle.
  • Stay out of my way
  • I don’t like threats.
  • [Grapple away]

Staying on course with full transparency, the first option is ideal. After this answer, the game fades black, marking the end of the first chapter of Batman: The Enemy Within Episode 1: The Enigma. The action doesn’t stop there, the guide for Chapter 2 can be found here.
