Worlds will soon collide in an animated crossover movie called Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This will be the first time these heroes will encounter one another onscreen, having previously only interacted in the comics.

The Heroes in a Half Shell and the Dark Knight were brought together by IDW and DC within the pages of Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a 2015 comic miniseries by James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II. It proved popular enough to warrant a second volume and even a spinoff focusing on the the animated counterparts of these characters, titled Batman/TMNT Adventures. Despite the popularity and longevity of both the Caped Crusader and the Turtles, they have yet to share the screen with one another.

Syfy Wire reports that Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Home Entertainment will be working with Nickelodeon and DC Entertainment to bring these characters together with an all-star voice cast. The film has no official release date, but it’s set to arrive for purchase on both DVD and digital formats sometime this spring. This story will be based on the miniseries by Tynion IV and Williams II, with our heroes meeting trans-dimensionally to face off against Batman’s infamous rogues gallery.

The voice cast is headed up by Troy Baker, best known for lending his vocal talents to various video game characters, such as Joel from The Last of Us, as well as voicing characters like Loki and Hawkeye for Marvel animated movies. Interestingly, he has not only previously voiced the Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, but also the Dark Knight himself in other video game titles. Baker will tackle the roles of both the Caped Crusader and his arch-nemesis in this film, making him the first performer to do so within the same project. He is to be joined by Darren Criss as Raphael. The actor recently won an Emmy for his incredible performance in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Michelangelo, Donatello and Leonardo are to be voiced by Kyle Mooney, Baron Vaughn and Eric Bauza, respectively. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom will play Batgirl and frequent Harley Quinn voiceover actress Tara Strong will give voice to that character, as well as Poison Ivy. This impressive cast is rounded out by Carlos Alazraqui as Bane, Cas Anvar as Ra's al Ghul, Tom Kenny as The Penguin and John DiMaggio as Mr. Freeze.

Just last month, it was revealed that a Batman Beyond animated movie is in the works from Warner Animation Group and this announcement is bound to excite fans just as much. Marvel may be dominating the live-action box office, but DC has been the reigning champion of superhero animation since the early ‘90s with Batman: The Animated Series and the trend continues to this day with Young Justice: Outsiders. The beloved cartoon recently wrapped the first half of its continuation on DC Universe, with the remaining 13 episodes set to begin airing in June. The Turtles themselves have had a busy schedule lately, with the reveal of a Netflix film based on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus the possibility that a live-action reboot may start filming this year. In the meantime, viewers have this movie to look forward to as well. Between this amazing voice cast, the characters involved and DC’s stellar history with animated features, it’s probably safe to say that Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles won’t let fans down.
