But surviving the cold vacuum of space and a subsequent re-entry seems to be pushing it, even for someone like Batman. But according to writers Chip Zdarsky and Ryan North, there's science to explain how it's possible. Batman #130 by Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez saw Bruce stranded in space after Batman’s last encounter with Failsafe. Despite the impossible odds Batman faces, he manages to not only cling to life while in space, but actually enter Earth's atmosphere and land in one piece, alive and well. Despite its over-the-top nature, Zdarsky mentioned on his Substack page that there was a bit of science and math involved with the scenario, and he credits it to writer Ryan North, who assisted Zdarsky with the particulars. North confirmed on his Twitter account that he helped figure out a way that Batman could survive such a dangerous and improbable feat.

Batman Surviving Space Is Actually Possible

Comics book fans familiar with the previous work of Ryan North know that he’s written books such as How to Take Over the World: Practical Schemes and Scientific Solutions for the Aspiring Supervillain and How To Invent Everything: A Survival Guide for the Stranded Time Traveler. These books provided insight into how outlandish sci-fi and superhero plot devices would need to operate in the real-world in order to actually happen. So he'd be a pretty good authority to consult when figuring out how Batman could survive something so wild.

Bruce Wayne is someone that manages to pull through a lot of dire situations. No matter what odds he faces, Batman’s prep-time always allows him to see another day. But rarely is there any effort put into how the Caped Crusader could actually survive troubling circumstances, with the only justification being that he's Batman. By working out how someone could survive re-entry into Earth, Zdarsky and North wound up creating a much more captivating and engaging sequence that shows why Batman's preparations are his best asset.
