The Batman/Superman Heroes Infected By EVIL Finally Revealed

Batman Superman Comic Evil Supergirl

Warning: Minor SPOILERS for Batman/Superman

When the purest and most beloved heroes in DC's Universe are secretly infected with evil, they need Batman and Superman to save them. But now that the identities of the victims have been revealed, and the first artwork shows the nightmares they will become... well, even the Justice League may be too late to save their friends. And fans get to enjoy every second of it.

It's a chilling premise for any comic, but this twisted hunt is launching nothing less than DC's new Batman/Superman series. Thanks to the devious scheming of The Batman Who Laughs, a total of SIX corrupted versions of DC’s brightest heroes are going to terrorize Earth this November and December. The fight between Batman, Superman, and the evil Shazam has confirmed one of the Infected, but now DC confirms that EVERY victim will star in either a standalone one-shot, or a special issue of their own ongoing series running parallel to the main Batman/Superman book from Joshua Williamson and David Marquez. Time to mark your calendars.

Known collectively as The Infected, the group will be led by the now officially named King Shazam, with his fellow corrupted heroes now confirmed as: Supergirl, Hawkman, teen hero Blue Beetle. Based on the first cover artwork now revealed for the whole gang, it's clear Batman and Superman are going to have their hands full. With two final Infected still to be revealed for December, the six issues star DC’s beloved heroes--now corrupted by The Batman Who Laughs with a toxin that violently transforms them into the worst versions of themselves. But pictures speak a thousand words, so fans can read on below for the issues, storytellers, and release dates to look out for once Batman/Superman gets under way:

The twist that will set the tone of the Batman/Superman hunt and the larger story comes in the first issue, with DC already confirming that Shazam is the first turned evil. When we got the chance to speak with Williamson during San Diego Comic-Con, he explained that Billy Batson's role as DC's most inspiring and goodhearted hero is the exact reason why he--now as King Shazam--will lead this tragic 'master plan' hatched by The Batman Who Laughs:

We started thinking, what would The Batman Who Laughs do? If you want to break apart the DCU, if you want to cause real damage, one of the most powerful parts of the DCU is the families, it's the relationships. So if you want to damage those relationships, if you want to really get in there and cause some chaos, who do you go after?... If you go back and look at Underworld Unleashed, Neron went after Billy. That was the endgame. It was this whole thing where you thought he was going after Superman, but he wanted Billy. He wanted Billy because Billy was the most innocent. He would be the hardest to corrupt. The Batman Who Laughs has the same thought. Billy is the hardest to corrupt, he's one of the best of us... So I'm going after him first. That's why.

Even from prison, the Batman Who Laughs is staying two steps ahead of the caped crusader and the Man of Steel. His plan to infect heroes and turn them into the Dark Multiverse versions of themselves is starting to build steam, with Shazam and others already succumbing to his evil toxin. Batman and Superman are racing the clock to prevent the other three members of the Secret Six from being poisoned, but they realize they are too late when those three come looking for them instead-one of whom is a lot closer to Superman than expected and itching for a fight!

The mystery of the final two victims is being maintained for now, set to receive their own spotlight one-shot issues when December arrives (in case any DC fans were looking to make their holidays a bit more horrifying). The action all begins with Batman/Superman #1 arriving on August 28th, 2019.
