Potential spoilers for Batman/Superman World's Finest #9 by DC Comics

In a hilarious new DC Comics cover that embraces the '90s overuse of massive, unrealistically stylized capes, Superman and Batman show what would happen if real physics were applied to them. In the best variant cover art from Mario Foccillo and Prasad Rao, The Dark Knight and Man of Steel's capes get a great joke image where their oversized costume features wrap them up.

DC Comics is releasing a series of new variant cover art that embrace the bombastic nature of '90s comics, with many homages giving heroes and villains more extreme and edgy looks homaging the era. From Wonder Woman rocking a jean jacket that's a cosplayer's dream to Batman's partner Ghost-Maker getting an all-new costume that gives him a '90s makeover with a fitting amount of pouches, DC isn't holding back. However, one of the best variant covers from the batch is a joke cover starring Batman and Superman, which highlights the insanity of the cape physics used during the period.

In variant cover art that will appear on November's Batman/Superman: World's Finest #9 from Mark Waid and Dan Mora, Batman and Superman get surprisingly realistic cape physics. For those familiar with Todd McFarlane and other popular artists' uses of exaggerated and unrealistically sized capes during the '90s, the joke variant cover art shows what the heroes might look like actually using the huge capes. The Mario Foccillo and Prasad Rao cover art features Batman and Superman wrapped up in their capes, as their faces aren't visible. The cover art is one of the best of the batch of '90s homages and is wonderfully executed.

It would have been a missed opportunity to homage to the '90s without showing the exaggerated capes of its heroes like Batman and Superman. The joke variant cover art from Foccillo and Rao perfectly captures the silliness of the era's capes, showing that even the best heroes in the DC Universe would struggle with them getting in their way. Readers can pick up the new variant cover art when Batman/Superman: World's Finest #9 by DC Comics arrives in comic book stores on November 15th, 2022.
