There's little question the upcoming Dark Nights: Death Metal series is going to be one of the most metal series ever published by DC Comics. If you needed proof of that, a new variant cover features Batman jamming out on guitar in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Dark Nights: Death Metal is set to be the epic conclusion Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Batman run. A sequel series to Dark Nights: Metal, Death Metal features the last remaining heroes banding together as the world is being engulfed by the Dark Multiverse. Previews for the series included some seriously twisted looks at heroes including a grim reaper version of Batman, Wonder Woman wielding the 'chainsaw of truth,' Superman with long hair and a (seemingly) rock arm, and a malnourished Swamp Thing. This week, DC released a new variant cover and it features Batman rocking out in an extremely metal way.

On their DC Nation Twitter account, DC Comics unveiled a variant cover from the talented Doug Mahnke (Green Lantern). In the picture, Batman stands before a group of infected individuals, while playing a scythe-shaped guitar. The entire aesthetic is extremely metal, as a group of mutilated heads is stacked behind him, as Batman has chains connected to his guitar. Meanwhile, Batman's sporting quite the look. He's got a skull belt, a spiked-up cape, and a ton of buckles throughout his ensemble. It's the most metal Batman's ever been.

While Dark Nights: Death Metal is set to be completely bonkers, it would be pretty surprising if Batman actually wields a guitar like in the image in the comic. The variant cover is more about perfectly encapsulating just how metal the series is going to be - and what's more metal than Batman playing a guitar in front of literal death and destruction? It's badass and completely appropriate for the tone of the series. If the guitar does make it into the book, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all. Now, who would fill out the rest of the band? Wonder Woman on the drums? Aquaman on bass? Superman on lead vocals? The possibilities are endless.
