Warning! Spoilers for Robins #2

The past and present sidekicks of Batman have their own version of Captain America’s catchphrase, “Avengers assemble!” Aside from “Teen Titans go!” the DC Universe is lacking in such row calls.

The ongoing title Robins is bringing a greater sense of unity to the bat family. Some of Batman’s former sidekicks partner together, almost like adoptive siblings, as they reflect on their superhero careers alongside the Dark Knight. The five past and present Robins band together, including Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Jason Todd/Red Hood, Tim Drake/Robin, Stephanie Brown/Spoiler, and Damian Wayne/Robin as they use their training to investigate a mystery concerning an unknown Robin. At this rate, it might be more appropriate to call them the “Robin” family instead of the bat family. Now, the group even has their own catchphrase in Robins #2, written by Joshua Williamson with art by Gleb Melnikov.

As seen on the cover of Robins #2, Tim Drake extends his hand and shouts, “Robins rally!” Although the phrase doesn’t come up in the issue itself, the rallying cry solidifies their band of bat brothers. When they were Batman’s own partners, they didn’t require such a slogan, and it might have even gone against brand. Now that they have gained some distance from the caped crusader, they are growing as a team of their own. Despite not having the most experience and being outranked by Red Hood and Nightwing, Tim Drake appears to be in a leader position as he ascribes them the new bird call.

Even though most of the team are no longer Robins, the term apparently still applies in Tim’s eyes. Spoiler was a Robin for the smallest amount of time, and even she gets to be included. At the time, Stephanie Brown appeared to don the girl wonder persona as a way to get back at Tim. Not long after, Batman fired her for breaking his code, assuming she would do it again. Also getting back at her father AKA Cluemaster, Steph proved to make a better Spoiler than a Robin

With this context, it reveals that Tim has forgotten the situation which gets referenced later in the issue. It could be confusing for new comic book readers why Robin would call the group “Robins” when only two of the members appear to wear the signature costume. But, Tim Drake’s new usage of the name makes it seem like a spiritual title, encompassing all past, present, and future sidekicks represented by Batman’s original sidekick, Robin.
