Director Matt Reeves celebrated Robert Pattinson's casting as the titular character in his upcoming film, The Batman. Warner Bros. and DC's hunt for the newest Bruce Wayne came to a close last week when it was reported that the Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire alumni nabbed the part, besting Nicholas Hoult for the part. Several days later, the filmmaker officially welcomes the actor to the project.

Not much is known regarding plot specifics for The Batman with the film undergoing several iterations. Initially, DCEU's Caped Crusader, Ben Affleck was supposed to direct, write and star in the solo flick. But he opted out of writing and directing to focus on portraying the characters, paving the way for Reeves to come in. Persistent rumors went around for months that Affleck was actively looking to exit the job, leaving fans concerned about the standalone project. It was only at the beginning of this year that his departure was announced, officially beginning the search for a new Batman. Warners and DC were silent during the whole casting process, leading to a slew of speculation that attached Oscar Isaac and Armie Hammer to the role. In the end, it was Pattinson who nabbed the coveted gig, and Reeves seems happy about it.

Taking it to his official Twitter account, Reeves posted a simple GIF of Pattinson in Josh and Benny Safdie's crime film, Good Timeusing three bat emojis in the caption. In the 2017 movie, Pattinson played Connie Nikas, a bank robber on the run with his developmentally disabled brother, Nick Nikas. Fans quickly flocked the comments section celebrating the good news with either images of Pattinson looking particularly like Bruce Wayne or well-wishes for the whole cast and crew of The Batman. Check out the filmmaker's tweet below:

Reeves' social media post effectively confirms that Pattinson is indeed the next Dark Knight. There hasn't been any statement from the studio regarding the casting, and it's safe to say that they will release it once the full line-up is finalized, including those playing Penguin and Catwoman who will reportedly be two of the villains of the movie. Considering that the project is slated for summer of 2021, with filming expected to commence first quarter of next year, chances are that fans will soon get official details regarding The Batman sooner rather than later - perhaps during this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

Pattinson is mostly known for starring in the five-film Twilight series based on Stephanie Meyer's romance fantasy novels. The 33-year-old actor played Edward Cullen opposite Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan. The franchise was a worldwide hit, but it was a critical failure understandably concerning the DC fan community when news first broke out that Warners is considering him as Batman. But since The Twilight Saga: Braking Dawn - Part 2, Pattinson has gone on to do a string of critically acclaimed films including Good TimeThe Lost City of Z and The Lighthouse, effectively proving his acting prowess repeatedly. Reeves' tweet reminds fans who are still skeptical of him by choosing to post a GIF from arguably one of the actor's best performances. Given that, there's really no reason to be worried for The Batman - at least when it comes to whether or not Pattinson can deliver as Bruce Wayne.
