Zack Snyder is very excited to see Robert Pattinson's The Batman. Snyder introduced the most recent onscreen Batman, Ben Affleck, to the world with Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeWhile there was some initial controversy around Snyder's depiction of the character (namely over the fact that he was a Batman who killed), fans largely seem to have come around to Affleck's Batman in the years since. Affleck was once set to write, direct, and star in his own solo Batman film, but the actor later left the DCEU entirely for various personal reasons.

Warner Bros. then decided to take Batman in a different direction with The Batman. Matt Reeves is settling into the director's chair, and Pattinson is taking on the role of Bruce Wayne. Like Affleck, there was some pushback among fans when Pattinson was first cast, but in general, there's a great deal of excitement surrounding The Batman. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but Reeves intends to put special focus on Batman's role as a detective in a story that is reportedly perfect for its current October release date.

While talking about his upcoming cut of Justice League with Grace Randolph, Snyder briefly discussed the various changes going on within the DCEU, including the new Batman (which will likely be separate from DCEU continuity). Snyder was all too happy to share his enthusiasm for The Batman, saying in a quick aside that "I'm super excited about that, by the way." He said he thinks Reeves is "an amazing filmmaker," and that "Robert's cool." There seems to be no bad blood between DC's most recent Batman directors.

And, really, there shouldn't be. Reeves is crafting his own Batman story that is different than what Snyder did, and Snyder is finally getting the chance to depict Batman just how he wanted to with Justice League. Batman is such an iconic character who has been portrayed in so many different ways that anyone can feel free to do what they wish with him. Plus, this just means Batman fans will be spoiled in 2021 with the releases of both Justice League and The Batman.

The Batman began production earlier this year, but it was forced into a lengthy delay due to the spread of COVID-19 back in March. Recent reports indicate The Batman will begin again in September, and they will no longer be shooting on location. This will hopefully prevent any further delays and allow The Batman to reach its (second) release date. There are many who are eagerly awaiting this film, and it sounds like they can count Snyder among their ranks.
