Bruce Wayne attends a funeral in new The Batman photos. Matt Reeves' upcoming DC Films project may have been delayed from October 2021 to March 2022, but filming continues as evidenced by new set images. It also reveals that Robert Pattinson is back filming after testing positive for coronavirus back in early September.

Production for The Batman has not been an easy one; while all of Hollywood had to adjust their schedules due to the ongoing global pandemic, the Warner Bros. project was particularly bogged down by it. Principal photography had just started earlier this year when it had to shut down due to the health crisis. Not long after it restarted, however, it needed to be suspended again after someone from the cast and crew contracted the virus which turned out to be Pattinson. Now, it appears as if work is finally in full swing again.

Shared on Instagram by John Regan is a string of new photos from the set of The Batman. The images show a funeral attended by a lot of people, including Wayne. Filming took place outside St George's Hall, opposite Lime Street station Liverpool, which doubled for Gotham City Hall. Check out the images below:

The set photos confirm that the funeral is for Rupert Penry-Jones' still-unconfirmed character, although looking at The Batman trailer that Reeves and Pattinson debuted at DC FanDome, chances are that he's playing Don Mitchell — The Riddler's (Paul Dano) victim whose face was taped up in the official footage. Not much is known about the character since he's not from the comic books, but other confirmed details about him include him being the Gotham mayor who just won his third term against Bella Real (Jayme Lawson). A portion of Mitchell's funeral was featured in the first trailer for The Batman which was hijacked by The Riddler. It's unclear, however, whether or not this outside scene takes place before or after that as people would've more likely dispersed after another attack from the villain.

It's difficult not to be anxious seeing how crowded it was filming the aforementioned funeral scene, especially after Pattinson himself had just gotten the coronavirus. Granted that those involved seem to be wearing masks in between takes, there's still a sense of dread seeing these many people crammed in one space in this day and age of mandated physical distancing. Hopefully, people working on The Batman no longer suffer any more health scares. That said, with a second and presumed deadlier wave of coronavirus coming with the flu season, it might be for the best if the film and any other production veer away from shooting scenes with large crowds just to be on the safe side. In any case, Reeves and Warner Bros. have more wiggle time now to finish the project after it was delayed.
