New set photos for the 2022 DC movie The Batman serve to tease the adaptation of an iconic comic book moment between Catwoman and Carmine Falcone. By the time The Batman (hopefully) arrives on theater screens in 2022, it'll have been nearly five years since Batman headlined a new live-action movie. That's an unusually long stretch for the iconic character, at least since Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy revived his movie franchise and once again made him a blockbuster draw.

While a lot of that length of time is certainly due to Coronavirus-related production delays, perhaps Batman fans needed a breather after the widely considered subpar Joss Whedon theatrical cut of Justice League. The upcoming Zack Snyder cut of Justice League will allow Batfleck an expanded do-over in that regard, but the theatrical cut left many with a bad Bat-taste in their mouths. With Robert Pattinson cast as a fresh, younger Bruce Wayne, The Batman represents an opportunity for a full theatrical refresh for Gotham's protector.

The Batman will also be a movie reboot for the character of Carmine Falcone, the most powerful mob boss in Gotham City. He last appeared on film in Batman Begins, as played by Tom Wilkinson. In The Batman, Falcone is played by John Turturro, while Catwoman is played by Zoe Kravitz. Not much is known about Falcone and Catwoman's relationship in the film yet, but some new set photos (via Just Jared) appear to tease a comic moment.

The Batman Set Photos Tease Catwoman & Falcone Moment From The Comics

Zoe Kravitz and comic book Catwoman

In The Batman set photos, most major characters in the film are seen attending a funeral for who one assumes must be a prominent figure in Gotham City. This includes Carmine Falcone and Catwoman's alter ego Selina Kyle, who actually are arm-in-arm at one point. Clearly, their relationship in The Batman at least begins friendly. However, if one looks closely, Falcone is sporting a series of scratch marks on the side of his face. In the Batman: Year One comic arc, Catwoman left those scars on Falcone's face with the metal claws of her costume.

Interestingly, if Falcone and Selina are on good terms at the funeral being depicted, but he already has the facial scars, he must not know Selina is Catwoman at that juncture. That makes their relationship in The Batman a ticking time bomb, as Falcone will eventually make the connection, and if Selina isn't aware he has, she'll be in grave danger. If she's developed a connection with Batman by that point, it's likely he'll save her, which would make sense, since it was while saving Catwoman from Falcone in the Year One comic that the cat burglar scratched up the don.
