The Batman star Robert Pattinson tests positive for COVID-19. Beginning production earlier this year, The Batman was one of many Hollywood projects affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, shutting down in mid-March as the health crisis took a turn for the worse. At the time the movie went on hiatus, director Matt Reeves had shot only 25 percent of the film, which was still enough to cut together a well-received The Batman trailer that debuted at DC FanDome. After seeing the footage, viewers became even more excited for the final film, which is why there was so much excitement over The Batman resuming production.

In recent weeks, Hollywood has attempted to get back on its feet, but it hasn't been smooth sailing for all the production restarts. Jurassic World: Dominion was forced to alter its location shooting following a coronavirus outbreak, and The Batman just had to pause again after someone on the film tested positive for the virus. When the news first broke, it was unknown who contracted COVID-19, but now it's been revealed it's The Batman's biggest star.

According to Vanity Fair, Pattinson is the one who tested positive. As previously reported, he is currently in isolation while filming is on hold.

Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in The Batman

Having to deal with positive COVID-19 tests is part of the "new normal" as various industries get back to work during the pandemic, but this is obviously still a huge development for The Batman. Pattinson, of course, is the movie's lead, playing the new iteration of Bruce Wayne. The extent of The Batman's latest delay will be connected to his personal health. It's unknown if Pattinson is dealing with any symptoms and how severe they might be. It also remains to be seen if anyone else on The Batman set caught coronavirus. As one of the principal actors, Pattinson was likely interacting with multiple cast and crew members, so hopefully The Batman doesn't experience a community outbreak. The coronavirus incubation period can last up to two weeks, meaning Warner Bros. will be keeping a close eye on things moving forward.

Like all the other productions resuming, The Batman had health and safety protocols in place and reportedly is no longer filming on location. Despite those steps WB took, Pattinson still got sick, illustrating the dangers and inherent risks of shooting a massive tentpole movie while the pandemic is still a serious issue. The Batman only lasted a few days before it had to shut down again, and it's unknown when production will be able to resume. However, The Batman's future schedule is a secondary concern. First and foremost, the hope is Pattinson makes a full recovery.
