The Riddler's creepy mask gets a detailed look in new images from The Batman 2022 calendar. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman already stands as one of the most anticipated movies of next year. This project follows in the steps of 2019's Joker, in that it will remain separate from the DCEU. Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne, now within his second year as Gotham's famed Dark Knight. The Batman specifically follows him as a series of gruesome murders rock the city; Reeves has said this film will dig into Batman's skillset as a detective.

The Batman also promises to hold an impressive slate of supporting characters, from Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) to the Penguin (an unrecognizable Colin Farrell). Based on the one trailer that has debuted, the main villain appears to be the Riddler (Paul Dano). In The Batman's world, he goes by his traditional name of Edward Nashton and is the person responsible for the murders. He also wears a mask outfitted with goggles, thus preventing anyone from actually seeing his face. With The Batman still several months away, much of the Riddler's role remains a mystery.

As the wait for another trailer continues, fans have now received a new look at the Riddler's mask via the Batman's official 2022 calendar. Shared online by Robert Pattinson Photos, the back of the calendar shows two shots of the Riddler with his mask, with the one in the top right corner giving the most detailed look yet. Check it out down below.

By keeping the Riddler's mask on through all of his appearances so far, it's clear The Batman wishes to keep Dano's full look a secret in the lead-up to the film's premiere. Even if there isn't anything particularly shocking about his appearance without the mask, the mere sight of it is doing wonders to build up anticipation. The Riddler looks terrifying and ominous like this; it's hard not to feel deeply unsettled when looking at him. The Batman is already inching up the tension just with its villain's appearance.

The Batman was once scheduled to come out later this year, but it has since been delayed to March 2022. This sadly means it'll likely still be some time before the latest trailer debuts online. It's a good thing, then, that merchandise is still rolling out, thus giving fans some kind of look at the highly-anticipated DC film. Though the promise of Pattinson as Batman is certainly exciting, much of the thrill of The Batman also stems from the Riddler's frightening role within it. Hopefully, new teases about what's to come will emerge soon.
