Rihanna wants to play Poison Ivy in The Batman, but hasn't been called by Warner Bros. just yet. The Batman has been in development for a few years now, and was originally supposed to have Ben Affleck writing, directing, and starring in the character's solo film. Since then, the film has undergone a lot of changes.
After Affleck announced he wasn't directing The Batman, Warner Bros. hired Matt Reeves to take his place. Reeves then re-wrote The Batman script, which he just finished this month. Perhaps the biggest announcement of The Batman's development was when Robert Pattinson was cast as Batman, a decision that caused a lot of fan backlash. Now that the film has set a 2021 release date, fans are beginning to speculate about which villains will appear, one of which is Poison Ivy.
When talking with ET, Rihanna explained that she would love to play the character Poison Ivy in The Batman. Rumors of her joining The Batman began after she made a post on Instagram of her leather boots and mentioned the Batmobile in the caption. When ET asked if she was hinting at a role in The Batman, Rihanna explained, "That [post] has to do a lot with Batman [because] I have separate obsessions. I have a bigger obsession with Poison Ivy, I'm just being honest. And yeah, I dyed my hair red because of Uma Thurman in the original." Rihanna also said that Warner Bros. hasn't called her yet, but would like to audition for the character since Poison Ivy is one of her "obsessions in life."
With Reeves' script being complete, he certainly knows who the villains of the film will be, but he hasn't officially announced which members of Batman's rogues' gallery will be included in The Batman. It's believed that the Penguin will be the main villain of The Batman, but several other villains have been rumored as well including Catwoman, Deathstroke, and Poison Ivy. The post-credits scene of Justice League seemed to tease plans for the Legion of Doom, which may or may not be incorporated into The Batman.
Rihanna may have the look to pull off Poison Ivy, she has also proven that she can act. Her first movie appearance was in the 2012 film Battleship and more recently she acted alongside Donald Glover in the Amazon original Guava Island. She also played the iconic character Marion Crane in the final season of Bates Motel. While Rihanna could end up auditioning for Poison Ivy, it is a bit too early to even begin speculating on who might play the character since Poison Ivy hasn't even been confirmed for The Batman.
