The Batman Eyes Jonah Hill, Possibly for Penguin or Riddler

Jonah Hill might join the cast of The Batman in a villain role, with him potentially playing either Penguin or Riddler. Following the departure of Ben Affleck as the star, writer, and director, Warner Bros. and DC Films now have placed the franchise in the hands of War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves. He's been attached to the film for a few years now, and found his take on the Dark Knight with casting Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne.

The new star of The Batman recently confirmed that the script for the movie is finished, which is good news as production is slated to begin early next year. As a result, DC fans have been eager to find out who else will join the film's cast. Reeves' script reportedly features many of Batman's biggest foes, like Penguin and Riddler. It was recently announced that Jeffrey Wright is close to joining the cast as Commissioner Gordon, and now Hill is nearing a deal too.

Hill's possible addition for The Batman first came from a report from Deadline, which revealed that the actor is in talks to play a villain role. While they weren't able to provide an answer on which of Batman's villains Hill could play, a report from Collider claims that Edward Nygma aka Riddler is the choice. However, THR is now saying that WB, Reeves, and Hill are still debating whether he should play Riddler or Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin, and they stress that it's unknown if an agreement will be reached.

Hill is still most recognized for the comedic work that launched his acting career. Superbad served as his breakout role and led to fellow comedic roles in Get Him to the GreekThe Sitter, the Jump Street franchise, The Watch, and This Is The End. He also voiced Green Lantern in WB's LEGO Movie franchise. More recently though, Hill has made an impressive turn as a dramatic actor with performances in MoneyballThe Wolf of Wall Street, and War Dogs. He was nominated for Oscars for the former two roles. If a deal does close on The Batman, Hill will capitalize on this run with a major role in a likely franchise.

Regardless of which role Hill takes, he'll have to fill big shoes. Danny DeVito famously played Penguin in Batman Returns, while Jim Carrey played Riddler in Batman Forever. In either case, Hill is a versatile enough actor to put his own twist on the character. It sounds like this isn't a done deal at the moment though, so hopefully all sides can come to an agreement and bring Hill aboard The Batman's growing cast.
