Warner Bros. screened new The Batman footage at CinemaCon. Originally intended to be a solo vehicle for Ben Affleck's Batman, The Batman has since evolved into a standalone film from writer-director Matt Reeves. It stars Robert Pattinson as a new, younger Bruce Wayne, who comes up against multiple Batman villains. The Batman teaser trailer was released at DC FanDome last year, offering a first look at footage from the upcoming film.

Currently slated to release in March 2022, The Batman was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also impacted the movie's filming schedule. Throughout the course of filming, Reeves offered teases of The Batman, including early looks at Pattinson's batsuit and batmobile. Still, the best look at the movie came from The Batman teaser trailer, which showcased Pattinson's Bruce Wayne, along with other DC characters like Zoë Kravtiz's Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright's Jim Gordon and Colin Farrell's Penguin. The footage teased Paul Dano's The Riddler would be the main villain, though didn't reveal the actor in character. Now, new Batman movie footage has screened.

During Warner Bros' presentation at CinemaCon, the studio screened a new behind the scenes featurette with interviews and footage, followed by The Batman DC FanDome trailer. The featurette opens with Bruce Wayne walking through Gotham amidst chaos to ominous music. Pattinson then talks about the character of Batman: "For some reason, Batman has always stood as one of the major characters of the 20th century," and says this is a "radically different" version of the hero from other adaptations. Then Reeves speaks, promising an "emotional Batman movie." He reiterates that the movie is not an origin story - though The Batman is inspired by the Batman: Year One comic arc from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli - but does follow Batman in his early days.

The movie footage depicts Batman beating up Gotham city goons awash in a red light, as well as other action with explosions, police officers and chaos. There's also more footage of Batman and Catwoman's fight that was teased in the teaser trailer. Pattinson says, "He’s really working out this rage. All the fights seem very personal," and Batman is shown using a variety of weapons. Further footage shows Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth - complete with a vest and white hair - and the Batmobile with flames emitting from the exhaust. The clip ends with Reeves saying, "We can’t wait for you to see The Batman in theaters next year."

While much of the footage isn't necessarily new - with the video reusing the clip of Pattinson's Batman saying, "I'm vengeance," from the DC FanDome trailer - the featurette did include a first look at Serkis' Alfred. Although Warner Bros. isn't expected to reveal their CinemaCon presentation to the public, the footage will no doubt be featured in future videos. With DC FanDome 2021 planned for October, it's likely a new trailer for The Batman will be unveiled during the event, while the interview snippets will possibly be released closer to the movie's premiere (if at all). As one of the more highly anticipated upcoming DC movies, The Batman CinemaCon footage continues to keep expectations high. But for the general public, they'll need to wait for a new The Batman movie trailer to be released to see more footage from the film.
