Matt Reeves gives the public a production update for The Batman amid the coronavirus pandemic. The upcoming Warner Bros. and DC Films project was already in the middle of  filming when the health crisis spread across the globe. This has forced every production in Hollywood to be suspended with movie release dates being significantly pushed back. Now, the director is offering fans new information regarding his movie.

Ben Affleck was supposed to star and direct the movie, but after his exit, the film went through a myriad of changes that led to Reeves signing on as director and him casting Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. Joining him in The Batman is a string of great actors including Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. Plot specifics are still tightly under wraps, and it might stay that way for a while considering that work for it is currently suspended.

Speaking with Deadline, Reeves revealed that with the production now on hiatus, he's examining dailies, sorting them out and planning on how they'll tackle the remaining work. They're not yet in the process of editing since they've only shot a quarter of The Batman. When asked when they think production can resume, he says there's no target release date yet.

“We’re not officially editing right now. We’ve actually shot a quarter of the movie and I have been pouring through dailies, looking at takes, and what’s to come.

“It’s way too early to say. I can’t imagine we wouldn’t finish in London. The situation is fluid.”

Matt Reeves The Batman

Originally, fans were optimistic that a proper trailer can debut at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, but with the coronavirus situation, it's getting more and more bleak by the day. It's worth mentioning, however, that the convention is still slated for July, although these can change in the next few weeks. The Batman's production hiatus was only going to last for two weeks, but as Reeves previously predicted, the suspension continues to be in place seeing that the health crisis is still a major serious threat all over the world.

At this point, it doesn't seem like Reeves is rushing to get back to work. As per his statement, they're taking it day-by-day, not deciding on a target date for filming resumption. This is the right way to approach things considering that no one really knows until when the coronavirus pandemic will wreak havoc around the globe. If anything, the health and safety of the people involved in The Batman should be their number one priority and if that means that they have to delay the release of the film, then so be it.
