A fan poster for The Batman shows Bruce Wayne's head wrapped in the Riddler's duct tape. Robert Pattinson makes his highly anticipated debut as the reclusive billionaire and titular crimefighter in the upcoming DC film from writer/director Matt Reeves, known for his recent entries into the Planet of the Apes franchise. The Batman reboot will find Pattinson's Dark Knight in his second year of action as he uncovers corruption in Gotham City and pursues The Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer who only targets the city's elite citizens.

Though the film was originally intended to be a solo vehicle for Ben Affleck's Batman, which he would also direct, produce, and co-write, the actor eventually left the project for various reasons. Reeves was brought on board and took inspiration from the Year One comics storyline to rework the film to focus on a younger version of the Caped Crusader and emphasize the character's detective side. The Batman also stars Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffery Wright as Lieutenant James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as a secondary villain, the Penguin.

The Batman's posters and trailers have revealed a few of the Riddler's catchphrases, which he scribbles on his victim's faces covered in duct tape, his go-to appearing to be "No more lies." Other than an overt reference to his eyes being covered, the message on this fan poster, "Blind as a bat," is actually the answer to a riddle that Batman (Val Kilmer) poses to the Riddler (Jim Carrey) during a climatic scene from Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever from 1995. Though The Batman's marketing campaign has kept much about Dano's Riddler under wraps, it is clear he will be a far cry from Carrey's previous iteration.

However, "Blind as a bat" is certainly a believable line that the Riddler would use to tease Batman with in the upcoming movie, as he is known to taunt the crimefighter as well as Gotham law enforcement with ciphers and riddles, taking inspiration from the real-life Zodiac killer. The Riddler's costume has also been completely redesigned to be more utilitarian, mostly consisting of military surplus gear. The full extent of Dano's Riddler will be revealed when The Batman debuts in theaters on March 4.
