The Batman has snagged Michael Giacchino to compose the score of the film. The Batman will be directed by Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson as Batman. While Warner Bros. has been working for years to build up their DC Extended Universe, The Batman likely won't be a part of the DCEU, akin to what Todd Phillips did with Joker.

Giacchino is often a go-to composer, especially after he won his first Academy Award in 2010 for the film Up. The Oscar-winning composer has also worked on several summer blockbusters like Star TrekJurassic World, and Incredibles 2. Giacchino has also worked on a handful of superhero movies for Marvel, but has yet to compose one for DC. Giacchino has also collaborated with The Batman director a number of times including Cloverfieldtwo of the Planet of the Apes sequels, and the 2010 horror film Let Me In. Now, it looks like Giacchino will get to work with the director once again.

After attending an event at London's Royal Albert Hall Chris Hewitt from Empire (hat tip THR) reported that Giacchino had officially joined The Batman. Apparently, Reeves made a surprise appearance at the event and got down on one knee to ask Giacchino to score his film. Hewitt's tweet can be seen below:

While finding a composer for The Batman is the latest thing Reeves has scratched off his checklist, there have also been a lot of casting announcements this past week. For a while it was rumored that The Batman would include Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin, two of which have now been cast. Just this past week, Zoë Kravitz signed on to play Catwoman and Paul Dano joined The Batman as the Riddler. As for the Penguin, no official casting announcement has been made, but Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill were two actors that had once been considered for the role.

The casting announcements that have been revealed for The Batman are no doubt exciting for fans, but finding a composer for the film is just as important. Many fans have been concerned about Pattinson being cast as the Dark Knight, but Giacchino is a safe bet for the film. Not only has Giacchino become one of the most well-known composers in Hollywood, but his chemistry with Reeves should make for a compelling score to help move along the narrative of the film.
