Fans of War for the Planet of the Apes star Andy Serkis may be in luck as the acclaimed actor is currently being teased to appear in director Matt Reeve's DC Extended Universe film The Batman. After losing Ben Affleck in his previously announced role behind the camera -- though the actor has begun getting back in shape to play the iconic comic book character as the star -- Reeves has since taken on the mantle of leading the charge of the Warner Bros. Pictures blockbuster to be.

As the film steadily edges closer to the start of production, many Hollywood A-listers have come forward to make a bid towards working on The Batman -- including a recent fan teasing by Josh Gad regarding the role of The Penguin. Thus far, Joe Manganiello is still thought to be on board to play Deathstroke and Rogue One composer Michael Giacchino has expressed interest in taking part as well. What's more, the latest word from Reeves may mean that another Hollywood player has also joined the cast.

In a recent Twitter post from Reeves, the director responded to a fan query as to whether or not he would consider casting his War for the Planet of the Apes leading man Andy Serkis in a role for The Batman. While carefully dodging the question yet simultaneously keeping the door open for such an opportunity to be pursued, Reeves stated that he would cast Serkis in anything. See the original Twitter post below:

Andy Serkis in ANYthing! He is the BEST! Regards back! https://t.co/Imt9oHh8wj— Matt Reeves (@mattreevesLA) May 16, 2017

It's impossible to say whether or not Serkis will actually wind up as a character in The Batman, but given that Reeves is already considering collaborating again with War for the Planet Apes producer Dylan Clark, the idea of his re-teaming with  Serkis isn't all that far fetched. With plenty of pre-established characters and roles from the comics for Reeves to choose from, it's entirely possible that Serkis may wind up appearing in The Batman -- especially considering the fact that he previously appeared in a supporting role in the competing Marvel Studios production Avengers: Age of Ultron.

For now, fans of the actor best known for playing Gollum in the wildly successful The Lord of the Rings trilogy can hope that Reeves' stated enthusiasm for Serkis' talents may yet result in his appearing in The Batman. In the mean time, we'll keep you updated with all of the latest news about the upcoming DCEU feature.
