DC Universe Animated Original Movies keeps expanding, and its latest title is Batman: The Long Halloween - Part 1, which will bring a bunch of interesting characters from Batman’s world – and here’s every one of them. Following the steps of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and other animated movies released in two parts, the comic book limited series Batman: The Long Halloween is getting a direct-to-video adaptation divided into two in order to make it as loyal as possible to the source material.
Batman: The Long Halloween was announced during the Superman: Man of Tomorrow panel at the DC Fandome event in August 2020, and it's based on the comic book miniseries of the same name written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale. The story takes place during Batman’s early days of crime-fighting in Gotham City, where a mysterious killer commits his crimes on holidays, one each month, earning the name of Holiday. With the help of District Attorney Harvey Dent and Captain James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to figure out who will be Holiday’s next victim – meanwhile, there’s a crime war between two of Gotham’s most powerful families (Maroni and Falcone). The Long Halloween also counts on the presence of other villains from Batman’s universe as are Calendar Man, Catwoman, the Joker, and more.
Batman: The Long Halloween is a fan-favorite storyline that has received a lot of praise over the years thanks to its darker vibe. The story has influenced other Batman works, particularly Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and the fourth season of the TV series Gotham, and a movie adaptation was long overdue, even if it’s a direct-to-video one. While a release date is yet to be revealed, the voice cast has already been announced, and it includes a lot of familiar names, including one that fans will be delighted to hear from for one final time. Here’s every confirmed character in Batman: The Long Halloween.
Jensen Ackles as Batman
Jensen Ackles lends his voice to Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Long Halloween. Ackles is best known for playing Dean Winchester in The CW’s Supernatural, and he also played Eric Brady in Days of Our Lives, Alec McDowell/X5-494 in Dark Angel, C.J. Braxton in Dawson's Creek, Jason Teague in Smallville, and will play Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3. Ackles is no stranger to the world of Batman, as he voiced Jason Todd/Red Hood in Batman: Under the Red Hood, so The Long Halloween is an upgrade as he’s now playing the Caped Crusader himself.
Naya Rivera as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Selina Kyle is voiced by Naya Rivera, marking her final role. Naya Rivera is best remembered for playing Santana Lopez in Glee, and she appeared in many other TV projects in either recurring or minor roles, such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Baywatch, Even Stevens, The Bernie Mac Show, and Devious Maids. The Long Halloween isn’t his only project set to see the light in 2021, as he will also appear in the dramedy Maid, to be released on Netflix.
Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone
Titus Welliver voices one of Gotham’s mob bosses, Carmine Falcone. Welliver is no stranger to this type of roles, as he played Al Capone in the 1991 movie Mobsters and Jimmy O’Phelan in Sons of Anarchy. David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man
One of the biggest villains in Batman: The Long Halloween is Calendar Man, voiced by David Dastmalchian, who has experience in the world of superheroes, and not just from DC Comics. His first movie role was as Thomas Schiff in The Dark Knight, after which he jumped to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ant-Man, where he played Kurt, a role he reprised in Ant-Man and the Wasp. He also plays Murdoc in MacGyver and played Dwight Pollard in Gotham and Abra Kadabra in The Flash. In addition to all that, Dastmalchian plays Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad and will appear in Dune as Piter De Vries.
Troy Baker as Joker
Of course, the Joker will make an appearance in Batman: The Long Halloween, and he will be voiced by Troy Baker, who is no stranger to the superhero world and especially that of Batman. Baker’s list of acting credits is long, as he has lent his voice to a variety of characters in various projects, as are Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Ultimate Spider-Man, and the web series batman Unlimited, where he played the Joker (after doing so in the movie Batman: Assault on Arkham). Among his most recent works is Netflix’s Dota: Dragon’s Blood, where he voiced Invoker.
Amy Landecker as Barbara Gordon
Barbara Gordon is voiced by Amy Landecker, who has appeared in movies like Dan in Real Life and Bombshell, as well as in TV shows like The Paul Reiser Show, Transparent (where she played Sarah Pfefferman), and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, where she lent her voice to Dr. Emilia.
Julie Nathanson as Gilda Dent
Julie Nathanson plays Gilda Dent in Batman: The Long Halloween. Nathanson has previously voiced Ro in Batman Beyond and Silver Banshee and Jewelee in Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, and has also visited the Marvel universe in projects like Spider-Man: The New Animated Series and Avengers Assemble.
Jack Quaid as Alberto Falcone
Jack Quaid lends his voice to one of Batman: The Long Halloween’s most important characters: Alberto Falcone, Carmine’s son. Jack Quaid played Marvel in The Hunger Games and got his big break when he got the role of Hughie Campbell in The Boys, where he will be joined by fellow cast member Jensen Ackles in season 3.
Fred Tatasciore as Solomon Grundy
Solomon Grundy is voiced by Fred Tatasciore, whose credits as a voice actor include a bit of everything. Among his most popular projects are Invader Zim, ¡Mucha Lucha!, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Robot Chicken, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Chowder, Mad, New Looney Tunes, DuckTales, and many, many more.
