Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1
In DC's new Batman/Fortnite one-shot, it's revealed that the Batman Who Laughs carries a weird version of Wolverine's indestructible claws from Marvel Comics. Seeking to gain access to Fortnite Island and its connection to the greater Omniverse, the goals of the Batman Who Laughs are just as dark as ever in DC Comics, seeking to corrupt every universe and reality he can find. Furthermore, it seems as though he'll be protected from the dangers the original Batman faced on Fortnite Island thanks to the nearly indestructible metal he's always had on hand.
In Batman/Fortnite: Foundation #1 from Scott Snyder, Christos Gage, Donald Mustard, and Joshua Hixon, Metropolis is under siege thanks to a massive rift to Fortnite Island that's opened up. Because the power of the island is desired by Lex Luthor, he's hired a multitude of villains to help him get to the rift, fighting past the defenses of the Justice League who are protecting the rift's opening. Meanwhile, Batman (the only hero with experience on Fortnite Island) has allied himself with the Foundation, one of the Seven from Fortnite who has been fighting against Dr. Slone and the Imagined Order (who've since become Luthor's allies as well). However, Slone and Luthor have also teamed up with the Batman Who Laughs, revealed to still be alive after the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal.
Despite Luthor's best efforts, the Batman Who Laughs was the only villain to make it through the rift to Fortnite Island, tricking The Foundation into thinking he was the original Dark Knight. With the rift sealing behind them, the Batman Who Laughs fights with the Foundation and emerges victorious after head-butting him, breaking the Foundation's helmet with his spiked metal visor, subjecting him to the powers of Fortnite Island and its endless loop of battles and recurring memory loss to keep its fighters under control. Furthermore, the Batman Who Laughs claims that his visor is made from a special metal, not unlike the adamantium claws of Marvel's Wolverine (who's also visited Fortnite Island during the Nexus War).
After damaging the Foundation's containment suit, it's revealed that the hero won't remember the Batman Who Laughs' existence which allows the villain to roam freely on the island to seek out the Zero Point, the source of the island's connection to the greater Omniverse of realities the Darkest Knight wishes to exploit. Furthermore, while the original Batman was initially caught in the cycle of battles and losing his memory every 22 minutes along with amnesia regarding who he was before coming to the island, the Batman Who Laughs confirms he won't have to worry about any of that thanks to his visor.
Made from the cosmic metal used at the dawn of creation to form new realities, the visor is apparently close enough to the Zero Point that the Batman Who Laughs will be protected from losing his memories, making him the most dangerous threat on Fortnite Island. Furthermore, While the Batman Who Laughs' spiked visor has always been a part of his signature look, it's interesting to learn its purpose beyond being an intense headwear style and that it's forged from a unique metal, making it a similar but much weirder version of Wolverine's claws.
