Batman is about to take his stealthiness to a whole new level, as writer Scott Snyder teased on Twitter. The writer of the much-anticipated Dark Nights Metal sequel Death Metal took to Twitter to show a very grungey Batman - complete with shoulder spikes - boasting a new gadget: a cloaking device.

The follow-up to Snyder and Greg Capullo's popular Dark Nights: Metal storyline, Death Metal will kick-off following the events running through DC Comics this past year, with many of them orchestrated by Batman's sinister alternate reality counterpart, the Batman Who Laughs. With the Source Wall shattered and the ancient being Perpetua unleashed on the universe, things have gone from worse to much, much worse. However, Batman seems intent on upping the odds, thanks in no small part to his newfound invisibility.

This wouldn't be the first time Batman's used a cloaking device. In the much-beloved Batman Beyond series, the futuristic Batsuit included a cloaking device, leaving only the outline of Batman visible when engaged. The limitations of this particular cloaking device aren't known, as Batman appears half visible and half-obscured. The invisibility does seem to line up with part of Batman's coat, with one of his hands still very much visible. This had lead several on Twitter to dub it an invisibility cloak similar to the one used by another heroic orphan - Harry Potter. The picture also seems at least somewhat similar to the Arnold Schwarzenegger creature feature Predator, especially given how Batman is emerging from his invisibility in the middle of what looks to be a dense jungle.

Batman's newfound cloaking isn't the only upgrade teased by Snyder and company. In keeping with the series' over-the-top heavy-metal sensibility, Wonder Woman boasts a "chainsaw of truth" alongside a gritty new costume. Given that the de-cloaked Batman seems to be speaking to Wonder Woman in the teaser image, it seems like the Amazon warrior will have an important role to play in the series.

Just how any of this ties into the events of Death Metal - or the greater happenings of the DC Universe - remains a mystery. Death Metal is certainly one of the most anticipated releases from DC, though its exact schedule is likely unclear due to the coronavirus's impact on the comic book industry. Still, given DC's recent announcement to resume distribution soon, it seems that neither the Batman Who Laughs nor COVID-19 will have the last laugh - especially not when there's a chainsaw-wielding Wonder Woman and invisible Batman on the case.
