Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman: Detective Comics #1035

In the latest issue of Batman: Detective Comics, it's been revealed that the Dark Knight is now responsible for creating bad cops in Gotham. While the idea of Batman was formed in part due to the large amount of police corruption in the city (necessitating the need for a vigilante in the shadows) Batman is now propagating the inefficiency of the GCPD. This is because the mayor has given orders for Batman to be arrested, leading to a rise in recklessness on the part of Gotham's finest which is only making them worse, hurting the city as a whole.

In Batman: Detective Comics #1035 from writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Dan Mora, Batman is investigating a very important missing persons case. Not only was the victim in question one of Bruce Wayne's new neighbors, but she was also Sarah Worth, the daughter of one of the richest and most powerful men in Gotham (who has a lot of pull with the mayor's office and police force). While Batman eventually did find Sarah, she had sadly already been killed in the city's vast network of sewers running underneath Gotham.

However, the Caped Crusader barely has any time to investigate the crime scene like he normally would, as squads of officers begin to close in on his position with the intent to bring him in. Mayor Nakano has been pretty determined to honor the promises he made to his voters, and he no longer has any interest in vigilantism running rampant in Gotham. However, in their eagerness to capture Batman, these cops ruin the entire crime scene, a fact which Batman himself takes note of with a fair amount of concern.

Additionally, as the cops chase the Dark Knight through the sewer tunnels, they've also opened fire on him as well. However, one of their bullets ricochets off a wall only to launch back and hit one of the officers. As such, Batman manages to escape, but the cops that were sent in report that they were attacked by the Dark Knight, making him the prime suspect in Sarah Worth's murder. It also means that the manhunt for Batman is officially interfering with actual crimes and wrongdoing in Gotham, and this crime is going to be that much harder to solve as a result.

While Batman was initially meant to be the solution for Gotham's corrupt and misguided police force, he's now becoming a responsible factor. With any luck, Batman will be able to continue doing what he's always done as Batman, which is to seek justice and protect Gotham, even if the majority of Gotham doesn't want his help right now. Here's hoping that the Dark Knight will weather the storm and that the city's current feelings are only a season that will one day pass, allowing Batman and the GCPD to get back to keeping Gotham safe as best they can in future issues of DC Comics.
