A recently released preview for Batman #99 shows the Batman family reuniting for the penultimate issue of DC’s The Joker War.
Written by James Tynion IV, the first issue of The Joker War was released in late July and hit the ground running with a delicious mix of blood, battles, and fun characters that Batman readers have come to love. The series places the caped crusader alone and at a disadvantage as the Joker takes Bruce Wayne’s wealth and power for his own. The battle has begun and Batman is losing.
The newest preview released by DC shows Gotham in chaos, presented in Jorge Jimenez’s bright, sharp art style. Panels show a cityscape on fire and teeming with the Joker’s henchmen. In the middle of this, though, we get a glimpse of hope in the form of the Batman family. Standing against a fiery backdrop, Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, Signal, Orphan, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, and Batwoman all appear on a rooftop with Batman, seemingly ready to fight.
Also in the preview is a variant cover by Derrick Chew showing new fan favorite, Clownhunter, holding his signature bat. Having already hit the streets as a violent vigilante in earlier issues, the addition of his variant cover suggests more to come with the character. Whether he will continue to dole out his own form of justice or join the Batman family in the fight remains to be seen.
As The Joker War draws closer to what’s sure to be an exciting conclusion to this epic six-issue battle, it’s difficult to say exactly how and if Batman is going to save the day. With his tech and power in the hands of the Clown Prince of Crime and the city full of lackeys, Batman and his cohorts seem more than out-manned. It's uncertain how Batman and his family will win against such overwhelming odds. But one thing is for certain, the joy of Batman and his dysfunctional found family joining forces and fighting together once again is sure to delight fans as Joker's war continues.
