The Dark Knight Rises already has a sterling lead cast, anchored by Christian Bale as Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and Tom Hardy as Bane, but you can't have a truly great movie without a truly great supporting cast.
So far, The Dark Knight Rises is winning in that department as well, bringing back Michael Caine as Bruce Wayne's faithful servant Alfred and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, along with newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard. That's not including interesting character actors such as Matthew Modine and Israeli actor Alon Aboutboul.
Today Variety reports that The Dark Knight Rises has added another supporting actor to its cast in the form of The Collector star Josh Stewart. It's unclear who Stewart will play at this point, but it's likely that he will play either a criminal or cop (two types of minor roles that The Dark Knight Rises will have in spades).
For those unfamiliar with Stewart, you may have seen the 34-year-old actor in David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or on TV, with featured roles in NBC's Third Watch or ABC's No Ordinary Family.
Anticipation for The Dark Knight Rises is running at an all-time high, and it's no wonder why. The third film in the series promise some big-time brawling between Batman and one of his biggest and baddest enemies (and judging from the first-look at Hardy in character, Bane will definitely be big). TDKR is also supposed to bring the entire trilogy full circle back to Batman Begins.
I would say that it's a lofty task, but under Christopher Nolan's steady leadership I fully expect The Dark Knight Rises to deliver. When the director's previous films in the series grossed more than a billion dollars and earned near-unanimous critical praise, it's easy to be optimistic.
What do you think of the cast of The Dark Knight Rises so far? Where do you think an actor like Josh Stewart could fit into the film?
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20, 2012.
