Now is the perfect time for DC's Batman and Marvel's Daredevil to trade names and costumes in the comics. Many fans have brought this concept up before, considering how their respective abilities and gadgets make them much more deserving of each other's moniker. To begin with, both Batman and Daredevil have a lot in common as crime fighters, as they both began their careers as vigilantes who were just as much on the run from the police as the criminals they strove to bring in so justice could be served. However, it's actually pretty ridiculous to consider how perfect the identities of the Dark Knight and the Man Without Fear are for each other, and are much more deserved all things considered.

This idea largely comes from the fact that Daredevil is blind with enhanced senses, and he was trained to use those senses to create a unique spatial awareness, allowing him to "see" without the use of his eyes. This resembles the poor sight of actual bats and their use of echolocation. Not only that, but Batman uses a variety of gadgets and heavily modified vehicles to traverse the city at extremely dangerous heights and speeds, jumping from rooftops and getting into potentially lethal situations, all without powers. Using those facts alone with no amount of further context, doesn't it make more sense for Matt Murdock to be Batman and Bruce Wayne to be Daredevil?

This concept is largely inspired by a viral Tweet from Jimmy Rothschild who asked something similar a few years ago, gathering quite a bit of support from fans who very much agreed with his claim. That being said, Rothschild's point is made all the better thanks to recent issues from Marvel and DC Comics, making now the theoretical best time for Batman and Daredevil to trade names. Marvel's Daredevil #5 (Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto) began a period of time where Matt Murdock abandoned his Daredevil identity, while Batman #106 (James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimenez) has seen the Dark Knight taking more risks, having built his most dangerous and fastest Batmobile ever.

Batman-Daredevil

An identity swap certainly seems fitting for these two heroes, and one has to wonder if Stan Lee would have considered using Batman as a name for Daredevil had it been available (Batman was created in 1939 while Daredevil was created in 1964). In any case, it's also interesting that both heroes are in a period of their careers where they're primed to trade names. Batman is only getting more reckless out of a necessity due to the loss of his billions, while Daredevil has been having an identity crisis as of late, only taking back the Daredevil name in recent issues due to an acceptance that Hell's Kitchen needs a heroic icon to inspire it. However, who's to say that he couldn't have taken on the new name Batman for a fresh start to better match his powers? (DC Comics' legal department, that's who).

Regardless, it's certainly an interesting point for fans to think about for two vigilantes who are already so much alike in their dark personas seeking justice (Ben Affleck did play them both after all). While it's highly doubtful that they'd ever actually swap names, it's hard to deny that Batman wouldn't be a perfect and better-suited name for Daredevil, and vice-versa in the comics.
