Warning: SPOILERS for The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #3One of the greatest team-ups in comics nowadays is Batman and Scooby-Doo, and together they are going up against a Batman villain that fits perfectly in Scooby's universe.

Scooby and the gang have recently run into trouble when they accepted a birthday invitation to Gotham's Owl Court Hotel. Not many people show up because the hotel is apparently haunted. More than a century ago, the hotel was established by a man who wanted to use the rumors of the Court of Owls as inspiration for his hotel. Apparently offended by the name, the Court sent their assassin, Talon, after the man. Over the years, various individuals have purchased the hotel and planned to renovate it to bring it back to life. But Talon shows up time and time again to scare them off.

In The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #3 by Matthew Cody and Erich Owen, Bruce Wayne attends the party and attempts to purchase the hotel from its current owner. However, the man declines because it was first established by his ancestor and he doesn't want to let it go. During the party, Talon shows up and attempts to scare everybody away. Bruce Wayne makes an exit so that Batman can show up. Eventually, Scooby and the gang, along with Batman's help, discover that the Talon they are seeing is actually the hotel's owner and his wife. They have been using the hotel as a base of criminal operations and dressing up as Talon to scare people away.

The Court Of Owls Are Typical Scooby Villains

Batman Scooby Doo Talon

Batman's legendary Court of Owls story is dark and deep in the Batman mythology. Talon is a truly deadly villain and the Court of Owls are master manipulators not to be trifled with. But this story takes the concept of the Court and breaks it down to its core, which fits perfectly in Scooby-Doo's zany universe. The reveal of Talon's identity is classic Scooby-Doo as Fred lifts up Talon's mask to reveal the old hotel owner underneath. The wife even has classic Scooby-Doo dialogue as she vows to have her revenge.

At its core, the Scooby-Doo franchise is all about unmasking the supernatural to reveal that the actual villains are real humans all along. These are people driven by anything from greed to revenge, true human emotions that powerful people often feel entitled to. This describes the Court of Owls perfectly. The Court use themselves as Gotham's true masters. In this issue, the hotel owner uses the rumors and spooky stories surrounding Talon as a means to keep control over his hotel. That follows the perfect Scooby-Doo blueprint, which allows this Batman villain to fit seamlessly into that universe.
