Spoilers for Batman Fortress #5!The Dark Knight of Gotham City, Batman, is a DC Comics character that’s well known for his badass and versatile costume, but for as prepared as he always is, Green Arrow is a member of the Justice League that can take him down with a well-placed shot from his bow. As for Batman's giant weakness that Oliver Queen could easily exploit? That pesky part of his costume that has no protection at all: his lower face!

A point made in Batman: Fortress #5, written by Gary Whitta and illustrated by Darick Robertson, this series tells the story of missing Justice League members and what Batman is doing to save the world without them. Recruiting other characters like Jackson Hyde, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern Da’yl, and in this particular scene of interest, Emiko Queen aka Red Arrow, to help him out, Batman is on the hunt for Superman’s missing safe house — the Fortress of Solitude — the one place that might house the only thing capable of beating back this mysterious global threat.

Tracking Red Arrow down in Star City, Batman takes Emiko by surprise, prompting her to instinctively train her bow and arrow directly at him. Unfazed, Batman says, “This suit can stop a bullet. Knock yourself out,” but it’s not until Emiko’s reply that the idea of her half-brother, Green Arrow, using Batman’s giant cosmetic weakness to defeat him is broached. Saying, “These arrows are armor-piercing. Even if they weren’t, you think I can’t hit that big mouth of yours from here?” Emiko succinctly calls Batman out for his costume gaff while giving Green Arrow an in for taking Batman out, potentially without a fight.

Batman Needs To Better Protect Himself

Red Arrow could shoot Batman if she wanted

A claim that can easily be believed with Emiko behind the bow, this feat would be a simple one for the iconic Justice League member known as Green Arrow to accomplish. Figuring that Oliver Queen would be more skilled, more accurate, and with his sometimes antagonistic relationship with Bats, more willing to shoot him square in the mouth, Emiko confidently saying she could hit Batman’s exposed parts to put him down is a huge costume weakness that hasn’t gone unnoticed over the years, as fans have rightfully been asking the question of why Batman’s enemies — and in this case, his rivals — wouldn’t just aim for the mouth to take him down quickly, easily, and in a way that Batman should really address.

Considering the same weakness could be exploited by literally anyone with lethally accurate aim, Batman has oddly never taken any serious or permanent measures in shoring up the giant bullseye that is his exposed jawline; a problem that could at one point become a fatal one. Batman has more safety precautions in his costume than fans can usually count, but if Green Arrow ever went go one-on-one with the Big Bad Bat, he’d have a relatively easy way of defeating him.
