Both HBO Max and Cartoon Network have ordered a brand new DC Animated series called Batman: Caped Crusader. The new series will join HBO Max’s catalogue alongside other popular DC animated shows currently on the streaming platform, which include Harley Quinn, Young Justice, and Green Lantern. Cartoon Network formerly housed series in the DC Animated Universe as well, like Justice League, Justice League Beyond, and The Batman

Now, as announced by Warner Bros., both networks have put in a series order for Batman: Caped Crusader. The new series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions and 6th & Idaho. Some big names are attached to the series as well, with J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and longtime Batman character designer, Bruce Timm, serving as executive producers. The three executive producers gave a statement expressing their excitement for the new series. Check out their statement and a poster for the series below:

We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.

Batman: Caped Crusader is described by Warner Bros. as “a reimagining of the Batman mythology” that will come with the help of the most advanced technology along with Abrams, Reeves and Timm’s collective skill and vision. The studio also states that Batman will be reinvented through “sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

Although there is a great deal of past and present Batman content, both animated and live-action, it does not make this new series announcement any less exciting. The producing talent, the studios behind the series, and the promise of a thrilling, fresh reinvention of the classic hero is definitely something to celebrate. This should, without a doubt, be welcome news to fans of the caped crusader, new and old, and it will certainly be interesting to see this new world that Batman: Caped Crusader has to offer.
