The Flash movie director Andy Muschietti is reportedly being looked at to helm Batman: The Brave and The Bold for James Gunn's new DC Universe. With the DCEU coming to an end this year, Gunn and Peter Safran are busy working on the new DC Universe, which will be a fresh start for Warner Bros. Discovery in running an interconnected franchise based on DC properties. One of the last DCEU films on the release calendar is The Flash from Muschietti, starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen.

It appears that the Flash filmmaker is looking to stay with the DC franchise after 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Muschietti is currently the top choice to direct Batman: The Brave and The Bold, which will be part of DC Studios' Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." This comes shortly after Muschietti teased his involvement with the Batman reboot, as he has been rumored for weeks to direct it; One Take News first reported Muschietti's hiring. There is currently no script, and Muschietti has yet to sign a deal. At the time of this story's publication, neither DC Studios nor Muschietti's representatives have commented on the report.

Muschietti's Hiring Becomes Official

Just over a week after the initial report, Variety has confirmed Muschietti will direct Batman: The Brave and the Bold. This comes as The Flash's opening weekend gets underway. In a statement, Gunn and Safran said:

“We saw ‘The Flash’; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”

Additionally, Gunn appeared to hint at Muschietti's hiring as far back as February:

Why DC Wants Andy Muschietti To Direct The Brave & The Bold

While Muschietti may not be signed on yet for Batman: The Brave and The Bold, it doesn't come as a surprise that he has emerged as a top candidate to direct the reboot. Prior to The Flash, the filmmaker already had a solid working relationship with Warner Bros., as he directed both of the It movies, which were commercial successes for the studio.

His success with the It films is also a huge factor in why Muschietti was brought on to The Flash; he has already proven his talent to work within larger studio systems and handle valuable IP franchises. Then there is The Flash movie itself, a project that had been stuck in development hell for years and lost several directors before Muschietti finally signed on. He was able to get principal photography underway, and the movie is only a week away from being released.

It is likely that once The Flash has opened in theaters and when Warner Bros. is able to see how the film is doing, a proper deal will be finalized between them and Muschietti. What is also a huge upside for Muschietti is that if he directs Batman: The Brave and The Bold, he will already be experienced in having tackled the Dark Knight in a DC movie, with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck's versions showing up in Miller's film. Hopefully, there will be some great news for Batman: The Brave and The Bold sooner rather than later.
